Prep Girls Roundup: Buckeye Local, Bellaire, St. C. all prevail

Buckeye Local’s Lady Panthers mounted a 18-2 first quarter lead and went on for a 58-43 Thursday night victory over invading Barnesville in an OVAC Consolation Round game.

The winners led 28-13 at halftime and 44-27 after three periods. Kayla Fillipovich and Becky Zeroski connected for 15 points apiece and teammate Lauren Swiger added 13 markers for Willy Luther’s quint. Kierstyn Czuchran landed a game-leading 11 rebounds and Fillipovich brought down seven boards.

Buckeye Local and St. Clairsville meet Saturday at Connorville in a girls-boys’ twinbill. Girls’ jayvee action tips off at 11:30 a.m.

Barnesville underclassmen Shaela Markovich and Layna Broomhall tallied 13 and 11 points, respectively, for the Green in Thursday’s encounter.

Magnolia 71, Beallsville 63

AT Beallsville, Lady Blue Eagles’ freshman Grace Berisford poured in a game-leading 31 points and teammate Mallory Chapman hit for 21 in the West Virginians’ road victory.

After leading 16-14 after one quarter, Magnolia saw the hosts rally back for 36-26 halftime command. But the visitors regrouped and used a 22-8 third quarter comeback to go ahead.

Katie Kinney enjoyed a productive 25-point, 17-rebound performance for Big Blue. Madison Stephen supported the Lady Devils’ cause with 21 tallies and seven assists. Mikaela Headley hooped 17 points and distributed six assists.

Beallsville has a Monday road test at Hundred.

Bellaire 78, Cameron 42

AT Bellaire, the Lady Reds rolled to 22-6 first quarter command and went on to easily handle the Lady Hornets. The winners extended the spread to 35-18 at halftime and 54-28 after three panels.

Cari Crozier connected for a game-leading 27 points and was joined in double figures by Lady Reds’ teammates Keirstyn Kidder and Nina Crook who tossed in 20 and 18 counters, respectively. Hundred’s Katie Tennant tallied a team-leading 20 points.

St. Clairsville 64, Linsly 54

AT Woodsdale, invading St. Clairsville netted 22 third period points to pull away from the host Lady Cadets.

St. C. trailed 16-14 after one period before moving ahead by one (32-31) at halftime. After three rounds, the Red Devils were in front, 54-44.

Emily Del Guzzo’s 17 points led four St. C. players in double figures. Carlee Gillespie netted 14 markers. Ashten Cenkus scored 13 and Alexis St. Clair contributed a dozen.

Linsly’s Morgan Brunner topped the hosts with 16 points. Miriam Nwachikau tallied 14 and J.J. Jackson added 13.

Monroe Central 51, Shenandoah 45

AT Woodsfield, the host Lady Seminoles exploded for 25 fourth period points to rally past invading Shenandoah.

Monroe found itself on the short end of a 13-4 lighting after one panel and left the floor at halftime down by 20-11. The visitors maintained a 33-26 upperhand after three panels prior to the Lady Noles’ late rally.

Chelsey Roberts rifled in a game-leading 20 points and landed six rebounds for the 14-8 Seminoles. Anne LaFollette provided 11-point support and Chelsey Tewanger tallied 10 points while recording seven steals. Amanda Haslam handed our four assists.

Shenandoah’s Blake Hall hooped 18 points with teammate Kasey King contributing 13 markers.

Monroe Central next welcomes Magnolia for a Saturday afternoon encounter with jayvee action tipping off at 12 noon.

Wheeling Park 86, Harrison Central 33

AT WHEELING Wheeling Park jumped out to a 41-9 lead at halftime as the Patriots defeated Harrison Central.

Haley Robb led the hosts with 22 points behind six 3s, while Emily Puskarich added 17.

Caitlyn Taylor chipped in 11 for the Patriots.

Katie Ellzy led the Huskies with 14 points.
