Prep Baseball Roundup: Ferry snaps skid; Harrison succumbs to Indian Creek, 10-9
MARTINS FERRY – The hosts (8-9) kept their OVAC Class 4A baseball playoff hopes alive with a gut-check, 11-5, triumph over Bellaire Monday afternoon high atop the Purple City.
Michael Oberdick paced the winners’ 13-hit attack with two singles and a triple that produced four runs. Robert Vargo plated three runs with a pair of singles. Jeremy Plants singled thrice to knock in two runs.
Dustin Schau picked up the win in relief of Tyler Strama. Both fanned three. Lucas Lloyd came on in the fifth to notch the save. He struck out two.
Dalton Conroy had a pair of one-base raps for the Big Reds (9-11). Nick Patrone singled in a run.
Martins Ferry travels to Barnesville today for a 4:30 p.m. first pitch. Bellaire is idle.
Barnesville 8, River 4
At Hannibal, the visiting Shamrocks (7-9) tallied five runs in the first inning and tacked on two more in the second in doubling up the Pilots (2-13).
David Stewart and Dylan MacMillan each singled twice to drive in a pair of runs for Barnesville. Jacob Keiser doubled in a run and Mitchell Wells drove in one with a single.
Eric Dierkes had two singles and two RBI for River. Cole Isaly had a pair of base raps.
Barnesville hosts Martins Ferry today.
Indian Creek 10, Harrison Central 9
At Cadiz, the Redskins (11-4) kept their Buckeye 8 hopes alive by scoring three times in the top of the seventh to nip the host Huskies (12-3) on the Mazeroski Field diamond.
Both teams are 7-3 in conference play. Edison is 9-2.
Dalton Rutter singled four times for Harrison Central. Drew Horn was a triple shy of the cycle, while Nick Pelegreen singled and doubled. Dustin Redish singled twice. Rashaen Mitchell and Nick Staten both doubled.
Edison 5, St. Clairsville 3
At St. Clairsville, the visiting Wildcats (11-2) rallied from a 3-2 deficit by tallying twice in the top of the fourth and once in the seventh to defeat the Red Devils at Memorial Park.
Nolan Marcus scattered seven hits for Edison.
Daulton Freeman doubled in two runs for St. Clairsville. Branden Ducker doubled and Patrick Buchanan singled twice.
The Red Devils host Wheeling Central today.
