Prep Softball Roundup: Bellaire girls now 10-0; SJC, UL, Barnesville, Buckeye sweep

Bellaire ran its record to 10-0 with yet another doubleheader sweep Saturday afternoon. This time, the Lady Big Reds took a pair from homestanding Linsly by scores of 9-1 and 12-3.

In the opener, senior ace Megan Ging was sharp in the circle with seven strikeouts and just one walk. She helped her own cause with a triple, single and RBI.

Also at the plate, Bellaire received strong production from McKenzie Conroy, who had a double and two RBI; Katie Zeller, who had a RBI double. Mary Garloch added three singles and two RBI. Dallas Messenger continued her fine early season with two singles.

In the second game, the Lady Big Reds struck for 11 of their runs in the second and third innings and never looked back.

Daphne Clark got the complete game win in the circle with three strikeouts and three walks. She also had two singles and three RBI.

Conroy had a triple, single and two RBI, while Garloch drove in three runs and had a single. Messenger plated a run with a base hit. Ging socked a double.

Lisa Johnson led Linsly with a two-run double. America Kovalick had a RBI double.

At Wheeling, the Irish improved to 7-0 with their twinbill sweep of the visiting Rockets at the J.B. Chambers I-470 Complex.

With the two wins, St. John Central sets up a ‘Meetin’ of the Unbeaten’ Monday night in Shadyside.

Hanna Absalom twirled a perfect game in the opener as she struck out 13. She now has 71 strikeouts on the season and a 0.00 ERA.

Morgan DeLuca was the big hitter with a pair of homers and a single that produced five RBI. Caitlin Sliva added two singles and an RBI, while Natalie Cervelli singled in two runs.

In the second game, Kyleigh Falcone picked up the win inside the circle, with help from Sliva. The two fanned a pair and allowed just two hits.

DeLuca once again drove in five runs with a grand slam and a double. Kaydie Coppa drilled three doubles and knocked in two runs. Sliva singled twice and homered for two ribbies, while Sydney Helms drove in a pair with a single and double.

At Byesville, the Jets (5-4) rebounded from a tough loss Friday to sweep the host Colts.

Shayna McGary was the star of Game One as she smacked a 2-run, 2-out single in the top of the sixth inning to provide the margin of victory. Olivia Minamyer had three singles.

Ali Bethel fanned eight and walked one in scattering five hits.

In the second game, Ali Delaney and Maddie Schafer evenly divided six singles and a pair of RBI, while McGary singled and tripled. Kaylie Cole singled twice to produce a run. Devin Earliwine and Minamyer had run-scoring singles.

Bethel picked up her second win by striking out four and allowing five hits.

Union Local hosts St. Clairsville Monday.

Magnolia’s Mallory Chapman stopped St. C. on six hits in Saturday’s opener. Chapman struck out three and walked a like number. Michaela Miller and Lauren Figura worked the mound for St. Clairsville.

Chapman slugged a home run andalso singled for the winners. Catcher Audrey Gibb collected a pair of runs batted in.

St. C. catcher Jolyn Shunk singled home a Red Devil tally. Summer Gallentime also drove in a teammate.

St. C. held on in the second game as Figura worked the route for the victory. She fanned two and also walked a pair.

Krista Morrison sluggled a pair of doubles, driving in a Red Devil teammate. Shunk contributed a single and two RBIs. Alicia Avila contributed a single and run batted in.

Magnolia’s Ashley Monroe, Rachel Durig and Audrey Gibb posted seventh inning RBIs.

The host Lady Eagles had the bases loaded with but one out before Figura worked out of the jam via an infield popup and game-ending ground ball.

Now 3-3, St. Clairsville plays Monday at Union Local.

AT Old Washington, the Lady Shamrocks swept a twinbill and improved to 4-3.

Paige Gibbons worked the route, recording 11 Ks and one walk in the opener. Becky Burkhart hammered a home run and triple for the Green. Hunter Weiss doubled home a teammate. Marissa Burga contributed a run batted in.

Sydney Ralston worked into the seventh inning to earn the nightcap mound nod. Ralston fanned eight and allowed one walk.

Gibbons singled and doubled for two Shamrock runs. Lane Hanlon also rapped a single and double as did Becky Burkhart. Weiss and Burga contributed RBI hits.

Barnesville hosts Shenandoah on Tuesday.

AT Weirton, Buckeye’s Ivy Starcher and Ashley Trouton combined to blank the host Riders. The Panthers’ duo totaled two strikeouts and one walk.

Kirstyn Czuchran singled and doubled for a run batted in. Taryn Tonkovich also singled and doubled, knocking in a pair. Kaylee DeCesare singled twice and accounted for three runs.

Starcher came om in relief to earn the second game nod.

She fanned seven and allowed three walks.
