Prep Softball Roundup: Bellaire now 5-0; Shadyside, SJC prevail in softball

Bellaire’s Lady Reds remained spotless in five outings following a 4-0 Wednesday road victory at Union Local.

Bellaire received four-hit shutout pitching from Megan Ging who recorded 11 strikeouts and one walk. UL’s Ali Bethel also pitched the route, fanning five and issuing a pair of walks.

Mackenzie Conroy tripled home a pair of Bellaire runs. Dallas Messenger singled twice. Mary Garloch contributed a double and run batted in. UL’s Cori Medley cracked two singles. Brittany Stack socked a double.

Bellaire was slated to host Barnesville this afternoon while UL welcomed Martins Ferry.

St. John’s 4, Magnolia 1

AT Bellaire, Hannah Absalom was dominant in the Lady Irish’s win over invading Magnolia on Amanda’s Field. She racked up 17 strikeouts and walked a pair. Magnolia’s Mallory Chapman also pitched well, fanning eight and issuing just one walk.

Sydney Helms drove in two Irish runs with two singles. Caitlin Sliva contributed a single and two ribbies. The Irish scored all four of their runs in the fifth inning.

Abby Durig doubled for Magnolia. Chapman socked two singles and accounted for the Lady Eagles’ lone tally.

St. John Central (3-0) was scheduled to host Frontier this afternoon as veteran head coach Jerry Magistro will be seeking career win No. 250.

Shadyside 7, Beallsville 4

AT Shadyside, the Lady Tigers won for the second time in as many outings. Sam Rosser worked the first two innings before Meagan Heagney came on in the third and struck out 11.

Shadyside’s Lindsey Dunn doubled twice. Angelina McKeever singled and doubled for a run batted in. Contributing doubles and an RBI were Hayley Holenka, Kenzie Fielding and Sarah Dierkes.

Beallsville’s Dicey Stewart slugged a home run.

Buckeye Local 5, Martins Ferry 2

AT Martins Ferry, the Panthers (2-2) got a bit of revenge for Monday’s loss at home to the Purple Riders (2-1).

Ivy Starcher fired a 3-hitter with three strikeouts and a walk for Buckeye Local. Aliyah Marelli slugged a solo homer in the seventh. Kaylee DeCesare singled and doubled, while Amy Balk doubled.

Tyrah King and Morgan Stalder had RBI for Martins Ferry.

Bridgeport 3, Barnesville 2

AT Bridgeport, Peyton Stewart’s 2-out single scored freshman Caitlyn Kroll with the winning run in the bottom of the seventh as the Bulldogs squeaked by the visiting Shamrocks on Irene Ehni Memorial Field.

Deadlocked at two, Kroll drew a 1-out walk and was sacrificed to second by Keri Renzler. Ashley Hadzima was intentionally walked before Stewart delivered her game-winner to right.

Hadzima singled and tripled to lead Bridgeport’s 9-hit attack. Kroll and Renzler had two singles each, while Kallie Meyers singled in a run. Stewart finished with two ribbies.

Hadzima picked up the win inside the circle, striking out three and walking none. She scattered four hits.

Becky Burkhart doubled in a run for Barnesville. Carolyn Blattler doubled and Marrissa Burga knocked in a run.

The ‘Rocks’ Paige Gibbons had four strikeouts and one walk.

River 12, Paden City 2

AT Sardis, freshman Rosie Romick continued her solid start with two singles and a double that plated four runs as the Pilots (2-2) evened their mark.

Gabby Goudy drove in two runs with two one-base raps and a double, while Haylee Bowers singled and tripled. Mackenzie Marshall and Monica Cieszeski evenly divided four singles.

Monica Curtis struck out eight and walked one while tossing a 4-hitter.

Monroe Central 11, Buckeye Trail 9

AT Woodsfield, the Lady Seminoles won for the first time in three outings by outlasting invading Trail.

Megan Dick and Amanda Haslam teamed on the hill for Monroe Central. Haslam aided her cause by clubbing a pair of doubles.

The Lady Noles’ Brittany Hooper hammered a double and two singles. Chelsey Roberts rapped a single and double. Erin Miller tagged a double and triple. Kaitlin Miller socked two singles. Cameron Brock drilled a double.

Monroe was scheduled to host River this afternoon.

Harrison Central 5, St. Clairsville 1

AT Cadiz, the Lady Huskies avenged an earlier loss at St. Clairsville behind Katie Ellzy’s four-hit complete game pitching. Ellzy totaled 11 strikeouts and one walk.

The winners received multi-hit outings from Roni Caldwell (two singles, RBI) and Shianne Nameth (two singles). Jess Custer and Kara Dunfee delivered a hit and run batted in.

St. C.’s Lauren Figura fanned four and walked a pair. She also socked a single and double, accounting for the Red Devils’ lone tally.
