Prep Softball Roundup: Bridgeport falls

At Bridgeport, the Bishops struck for five runs in the top of the seventh inning to erase a 3-1 deficit and go on for a 6-3 victory.

Summer South singled twice and doubled to drive in a run for the winners. Salena Ghaphery doubled in a run.

Ashley Hadzima belted two doubles and drove in a run for the Bulldogs (5-2). Bri Cross knocked in a run with a double and triple, while Caitlin Kroll doubled.

Bridgeport travels to Linsly today.

Edison 3, Buckeye Local 2, 8 inn.

At Connorville, the Wildcats (4-4) scored a run on a sacrifice fly in the top of the eighth for the win.

Ivy Starcher was the tough-luck loser as she struck out a baker’s dozen while limiting Edison to a pair of harmless singles.

Aliyah Marelli doubled in both of Buckeye Local’s runs in the second nning. Rachel Zeroski had two singles.

The Panthers are idle until Wednesday when Harrison Central visits Connorville.

St Clairsville 14, Union Local 12

AT Morristown, the Lady Red Devils repeated an earlier narrow win over UL, having prevailed 13-12 last week.

Hitting leaders for the winners were: Ashley Gillespie (two singles); Brianna Hummel (single, RBI); Jolyn Shunk (two singles); Lauren Figura (two doubles, three RBIs); Krista Morrison (two singles, RBI); Michaela Miller (two singles); Alicia Avila (three singles, three RBIs).

Leading hitters for the Jets who totaled 18 base knocks included: Ali Delaney (double, two singles, two RBIs); Haley Cole (single, RBI); Madie Schafer (single, double, RBI); Ali Bethel (three singles); Brittany Stack (double, two RBIs); Oliva Minamyer (three singles); Cori Medley (two singles); Shayna McGary (single, triple, three RBIs).

Monroe Central 9, Frontier 8

AT Woodsfield, Chelsea Covert delivered a two-out, two-run double in the bottom of the ninth to overtake invading Frontier.

Cameron Brock drilled two doubles and a singles for the winners. Erin Miller also socked a single and two doubles.

Chelsey Roberts rapped a single and double as did Covert. Monroe starter Megan Dick recorded nine strikeouts.

Now 2-5, Monroe was scheduled to visit Buckeye Trail this afternoon.

Martins Ferry 5, Steubenville 0

AT Ferry, freshman Shaye DeLeonardis tossed a complete game four-hit shutout as the Purple improved to 4-2. Ferry’s mound ace fanned two and did not allow a base on balls.

Addie Suriano socked two singles for Ferry. Contributing RBI base knocks were DeLeonardis, Morgan Stalder and Kylee Stalder. Katie Webb drilled a double.
