Prep Softball Roundup: Ellzy, Harrison dominate SCC; Shadyside wins

CADIZ – Katie Ellzy was on her game Thursday afternoon as Harrison Central blanked Steubenville Central 5-0 in softball action at Sally Buffalo Park.

The Huskies’ (10-4) junior tossed a perfect game for six innings before allowing a pair of infield singles in the seventh. She struck out nine and didn’t walk a batter. At the plate, she drove in two runs with a single and 2-run homer.

Kara Dunfee singled and doubled to plate a run, while Kate Parkinson and Shianne Nameth divided four base raps. nameth drove in a run. Kiley Staley had a two-bagger.

The Crusaders fell to 13-3.

Shadyside 3, Bishop Donahue 2

At Shadyside, Kenzie Fielding singled in Hayley Holenka with no outs in the bottom of the seventh to lift the Tigers (8-3) to their narrow win over the visiting Bishops at the Mead Township Complex.

Holenka led off the seventh with a walk. Sarah Dierkes then singled Holenka to second and she raced home on Fielding’s clutch hit.

Angeline McKeever had a run-scoring double for Shadyside. Holenka singled in another run and Dierkes had a pair of base raps.

Megan Heagney fanned nine and walked three to get the mound decision.

Shadyside hosts Barnesville today.

Bellaire 5, Barnesville 2, 10 inn.

At Barnesville, the Big Reds (16-2) tallied four unearned runs in the top of the 10th inning to outlast the host Shamrocks (7-7) on the Memorial Park diamond.

Megan Ging struck out nine and walked two in twirling a 2-hitter. She also tripled.

Paige Gibbons was the tough-luck loser with a dozen Ks and only one base-on-balls. Shasta Roberts had a double.

Barnesville travels to Shadyside today.

Beallsville 6, Monroe Central 5

At Beallsville, the Blue Devils (4-10) scored four times in the bottom of the seventh inning to nip the visiting Seminoles.

All four runs scored via walks.

Shania Phillips singled twice and drove in a run for the winners. Lakyn Tubaugh had a double and Dicey Stewart rapped two singles.

Chelsea Covert slugged a home run for Monroe Central. Cameron Brock, Kaitlin Miller and Amanda Haslam all had two singles.

Beallsville visits Caldwell today.

Magnolia 7, River 3

At Sardis, Mallory Chapman was a 1-player wrecking crew for the Blue Eagles (11-11). She homered twice to drive in four runs and fanned a half-dozen with no walks.

Audrey Gibb singled twice and knocked in a run.

Rachel Hutchison and Haylee Bowers each doubled for the Pilots (10-6). Hutchison had an RBI.

River is at Frontier today.

John Marshall 7, Buckeye Local 4

At Connorville, Kristin Lewicki doubled, tripled and drove in two as the Monarchs beat the host Panthers (7-7).

Athena Sayrie doubled among two hits for the Monarchs (24-3), while Morgan Watson had two hits.

Aliyah Marelli tripled among two hits for the Panthers, while Taryn Tonkovich singled and doubled. Lauren Swigger recorded two singles and an RBI. Kierstyn Czuchran doubled in a run.

Buckeye Local is scheduled to visit Morristown today to meet Union Local in a game that could decide the fourth, and final, OVAC Class 4A playoff spot. The Panthers are the defending champions.

Steubenville 6, Union Local 5

At Steubenville, the Jets (10-10) saw the hosts tally four runs in the bottom of the fifth frame to erase a 5-2 deficit en route to their victory.

Brittany Stack socked a 3-run homer in the first inning to give Union Local the lead. She also singled. Ali Delaney had a pair of ase knocks, while Ali Bethel singled twice and drove in a run. Olivia Minamyer had a run-scoring single and Megan Stull added a double.

UL hosts Buckeye Local today.
