Shamrocks win own baseball classic
BARNESVILLE — The hosts defeated Weirton Madonna 3-2 to capture their own baseball classic here Saturday night.
Mitchell Wells and Alan Bailes teamed on a 3-hitter. Bailes got the win in relief.
Colin Wilson, Auston Hannahs and Brett Crumm had RBI for the Shamrocks (6-9).
Wil Bowser had a double for the Blue Dons.
In the consolation game, Monroe Central outlasted West Muskingum, 8-7.
In the semfinals, Barnesville slipped past Monroe Central, 5-4, and Madonna thumped West Muskingum, 12-4.
Austin Hannahs singled twice and doubled to knock in a run for the Shamrocks. Dylan MacMillan drove in three runs and David Brown delivered a run-producing two-bagger.
Peter Frontz singled thrice for the Seminoles. Jeremy Luyster and Seth Alleman divided four base raps.
Jacob Black had a run-scoring triple and Eric Ward singled in a run.
Edison 3, Harrison Central 0
At Cadiz, the visiting Wildcats (10-2) received 4-hit shutout pitching from Jake Kramarich in blanking the host Huskies (12-2).
Rashaen Mitchell had a pair of singles for Harrison Central. He was also the losing pitcher despite 10 strikeouts in 4-plus innings.
Nick Pelegreen relieved and fanned six.
Bellaire 12, Meadowbrook 3

At Bellaire, Bellaire erupted for 12 runs in the first game of an afternoon doubleheader with visiting Meadowbrook at Chase Field.
Tyler West drove in a pair with two singles and a double, Brendon Ross had two RBI on four base hits and Dom Vinka also plated two with a pair of singles.
Hunter Westlake had two RBI on one single. Dalton Conroy singled twice.
Nic Patrone and Westlake combined to allow three runs on five hits in the win.
The Big Reds (9-10) weren’t as fortunate in the second game. Leading by one, Meadowbrook sent four runners home in the fifth and never looked back.
Patrone had a 2-run single for Bellaire. West had a pair of base hits.

At Hannibal, Chad Isaly checked the visiting Redskins on just four hits in the opener. He fanned three and walked one.
Cody Caldwell had a 2-run single in the first inning and Craig Hupp added a 2-run base rap in the fifth frame. Kam Brown singled twice.
In the nightcap, Caldwell, who struck out eight, walked a pair and yielded five hits, drove in a run with a single and double. Logan Lucas added a run-producing base rap.
The Pilots are now 2-9.

At Wheeling, the Cadets improved to 15-2 with their doubleheader sweep of visiting Kiski at Holloway Field.
Linsly scored all three runs in the opening inning of the first game, with Justin Lee hitting a run-scoring double and Jameson Murray knocking in a run with a single.
In the nightcap, Momo Felt socked a 2-run, 2-out double to give the hosts their sweep.
Murray added a double and Logan Goodnight singled in a run.
Kiski dropped to 6-5.

At Lafferty, the visiting Wildcats made quick work of the host Lions.
Joel Mott had two singles in the first game for East Richland.
Mott also singled twice and drove in two runs in the nightcap. Isaac McIntire had a run-scoring single.

At Wintersville, the Jets dropped a heartbreaker in the opener, but then got no-hit in the second game as they dropped a pair to the homestanding Redskins (10-4).
Colton McKivitz had a double, while Justin Riley and Tater Blake recorded RBI in game one.
In the second game, Jimmy Bolyog came within a walk and two errors of a perfect game. He fanned six. He also singled twice to drive in a pair of runs.
