Lafferty wins 4th straight

LAFFERTY – The homestanding Dodgers (4-2) won for the fourth straight time here Friday night in Steele and Cook Insurance OVBL action at the Community Park.

Lafferty plated two runs in the bottom of the seventh to earn a 4-3 triumph over the Wheeling Yankees.

Darrick Phillips paced the Dodgers’ attack with a two-run single in the fourth and a RBI base hit in the seventh that tied the game. Pinch runner Ethan Tobin raced home on Zeke Wharton’s single. Tyler Grant tripled to start the rally and scored on Phiilips’ hit.

Mark Smyth (2-0) earned the win in relief.

In other action from Friday night, Weirton rolled past Warren Township, 12-3, at SouthWest Field in Tiltonsville; the Wheeling Cardinals nipped Neffs, 2-1, at Patterson Field in Elm Grove; and Shadyside slipped past visiting West Liberty, 2-1, on Fleming Field.
