Shadyside topples Steubenville Catholic
Shadyside’s Lady Tigers mounted a five-run lead and went on for a 7-4 Friday afternoon road triumph at Steubenville Catholic.
The Lady Tigers improved to 13-6 behind winning pitcher Meagan Heagney who allowed nine hits but struck out seven and walked a pair.
Angelina McKeever clubbed a home run and single, good for three Shadyside RBIs. Hayley Holenka singled twice. Kenzie Fielding also collected two singles and two runs batted in. Shelby Benedetta drilled a double and two singles. Lindsey Dunn donated a single and run batted in.
Bridgeport 9, Beallsville 7
At Beallsville, invading Bridgeport mounted a five-run lead then held off a late comeback bid by the Blue Devils.
Freshman Caitlin Kroll earned the mound decision in relief of starter Bri Masters. Kroll compiled two strikeouts and four walks.
The winners’ Ashley Hadzima hammered a home run and single, good for three RBIs. Julie Nowalkowski singled twice and drove in a pair. Peyton Stewart tripled in a tally. Kroll doubled and scored a teammate. Adding RBI singles were Dakota Dobrynski and Dustyne Cargnell.
Beallsville’s Maddie Stephen singled and doubled for a run batted in. Morgan Marley socked a single and double as did Shaina Phillips. Laikyn Tubaugh tagged two singles and knocked in a pair.
Edison 2, Harrison Central 1
At Richmond, host Edison broke a 1-1 tie with the go-ahead tally in the bottom of the sixth. Molly McCoy clubbed a home run and single for the Lady Cats.
Harrison’s Katie Ellzy fanned nine and walked but one while spinning a complete game three-hitter. Ellzy also singled home the Lady Huskies’ lone tally.
