Area harriers run well
Area cross country teams tuned up for next weekend’s Cal Pokas OVAC Championships with fine performances Saturday at the Cambridge and John Marshall invitationals.
At Cambridge, Martins Ferry’s girls finished second in the Small School division behind Jamie Truchan’s third-place finish. Truchan crossed the finish line in 20:39.
Union Local’s Aubrey Snider was ninth overall in 22:11. The Jets were fourth as ateam.
Martins Ferry’s Lindsay Cunningham was 10th (22:24), UL’s Megan Bateman was 15th (22:51), Ferry’s Alyssa Kalinski was 18th (23:06) and the Jets’ Anna Frazier was 19th (23:07).
The Purple Riders’ Jacob Bishop was fourth in the Small School boys’ race in 17:39. Union Local’s Caleb Hayes was 15th (19:00), while Ferry’s Terrell Tuttle (19:02) was 19th.
Ferry was third in the team race, while the Jets were fifth.
St. Clairsville’s Alex Timko was seventh overall (17:27) in the boys’ Large School division, leading the Red Devils to a fourth-place finish in the team standings. Teammates Kevin Simpson (17:38) and Logan McCort (17:50) were 10th and 15th, respectively.
The Red Devils’ Joanna Vincenzo was 34th in the girls’ race.
At Moundsville’s Grand Vue Park, Shadyside’s Madison Miller was sixth in 23:38. The Tigers’ Alexa Coggins was 12th in 24:50, while teammate Lyndsey Howell was 20th in 26:21.
