VOLLEYBALL ROUNDUP: Barnesville ousts Ferry in sectional

Barnesville put an end to Martins Ferry’s season in three games during Division III volleyball action at Meadowbrook High School. The Lady Shamrocks, now 17-5, won by scores of 25-23, 25-22 and 25-7.

The Lady Shamrocks were led by Miranda Plumly who had 21 kills, six digs, two blocks and two assists. Layna Broomhall had eight points, three aces, 12 assists. Paige Huntsman added eight points, three assists, six kills, 16 assists and four digs.

Sydney Ralston was charted for eight points, nine kills and five digs. Shasta Roberts had five points and three kills Paige Wright had seven digs. Ralston, Roberts and Wright all served at a 100 percent clip.

Martins Ferry (11-8) was paced by Katie Sutherland, who had seven points, six aces, five digs and seven kills. Tyrah King added seven points and five kills. Shaye DeLeonardis netted four points, four digs and four kills. Brooklan Monroe had six digs and Lauren Bennett had five digs and two aces.

Shadyside Advances in D-IV

Shadyside has notched three victories since bringing back its volleyball program. All have come against East Richland Christian, including Monday’s Division IV sectional game at Barnesville High School.

The Lady Tigers, who will take on Shenandoah on Thursday at 5:30 p.m., defeated the Lady Lions, 25-8, 25-20, 25-16.

Shadyside was paced by Kenzie Fielding’s 17 points, five aces, four digs and five spikes. Samantha Rosser had 10 points, three aces and three digs. Angelina McKeever added six points, five aces and 15 digs. Jonna Eneix added 16 digs, four kills and three assists. Bre Lappert contributed nine points and four aces.

East Richland was led by Alyssa Crowley’s six digs, three kills and three points. Susanna Yourko had 22 sets, while Halli Peltier had six aces.
