Area swimmers shine at Dover

DOVER – Several area swimmers enjoyed solid showings at the Dover Invitational Saturday.

The St. Clairsville boys finished fourth in the team standings. The Barnesville girls were third to lead area teams.

St. Clairsville standout senior Michael Eaton continued his strong early season. He was the champion in the 50-yard freestyle, posting an impressive 22.75 to prevail by more than half a second.

In the 100 breaststroke, Eaton re-wrote the record book with a 59.32 en route to winning the meet title by more than three seconds.

The Red Devils 200 yard medley team of Christopher Blackwell, Eaton, Dylan Krone and Quentin Clark posted a 1:55.57 to finish third. The 200 free squad of D.J. Beck, Krone, Clark and Eaton finished second in 1:40.79.

Beck finished third in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:59.43. He was also sixth in the 100 fly with a time of 1:05.73.

The squad of Beck, Krone, Blackwell and Clark posted a 3:58.02 to finish fourth in the 400 free relay.

St. Clairsville’s girls were eighth overall.

The 200 yard medley team of Alaina Fasola, Delainey Banks, Hanna Vera and Sierra Coutz finished sixth in 2:19.30.

Fasola was the runnerup in the 100-yard fly. She swam a 1:14.63 for the silver. She was also fourth in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:14.01.

Banks was sixth individually in the 200-yard IM, posting a 2:48.69.

The St. C. quartet of Banks, Zina Bohach, Vera and Fasola finished third in the 200 free relay with a time of 1:59.77.

Martins Ferry’s girls received a solid fourth-place finish from sophomore Tara Fogle in the 200-yard IM. She touched the wall at 2:44.60. She was sixth in the 100 breaststroke in 1:25.62.

The Lady Riders’ team of Tara Fogle, Megan Ritts, Shelby Poludniak and Abbey Ecker posted a 2:01.47 to finish sixth in the 200 free relay.

Poludniak was sixth in the 100 backstroke, posting a 1:15.29.

Brandon Bliss led the Purple Rider boys. He was third in 2:22.54 in the 200-yard IM. He was third in the 100 breaststroke with a 1:10.48.

Barnesville’s girls received a pair of third-place efforts from Kasi Castello. She swam a 28.43 for the bronze in the 50 freestyle. She was also third in the 100 freestyle with a time of 1:03.73.

Abbey McMillen was sixth in the 100 fly, posting a 1:24.36. Alexis Starr was third in the 100 breaststroke in 1:24.16.

The Lady Shamrocks’ foursome of Carolyn Blattler, Olivia Jones, Castello and Myka Gordon posted a 2:00.28 for a fifth-place finish in the 200 free relay. The same team finished fourth in the 400 free relay with a time of 4:26.54.
