Prep Hoops Roundup: Bridgeport, Barnesville girls; ERC boys prevail

TORONTO – Caitlyn Kroll tallied a game-high 23 points as visiting Bridgeport (3-0) rolled past Toronto (1-2) by a 69-30 count in girls’ high school basketball action Monday night in the Gem City.

The sophomore dandy meshed seven field goals and went 7-for-8 from the charity stripe. Two of her baskets came from beyond the three-point arc.

Maclaine Murad added 19 markers, including a trio of trifectas, while Nicole Smolenak chipped in a dozen, which featured two bonus bombs.

The Bulldogs had 28 rebounds as Kroll, Smolenak and Brianna Massey each grabbed five. Smolenak completed her fine floor game with half-a-dozen assists and a like number of steals. Murad also charted six steals as the ‘Dogs totalled 23.

Bridgeport, which led 29-17 at the half and 51-27 after three frames, had just seven turnovers.

The Bulldogs host Weirton Madonna Thursday.

Barnesville 53, Buckeye Trail 42

BARNESVILLE – Shayla Markovich had 15 points and seven rebounds in the Shamrocks victory against Buckeye Trail.

Sydney Ralston added 12 points and Miranda Plumley added 11 points and eight rebounds for Barnesville, which led 34-20 at the half.

Alexis Williams had 10 points to lead Buckeye Trail (1-1).

Boys Basketball

East Richland Christian 75, Coshocton Christian 23

Jordan Barbina won his debut as a head coach, guiding East Richland Christian to a 75-23 victory against Coshocton Christian Monday evening.

The Lions were led by five double-figure scorers. Joel Mott went for 23, Logan Lish added 17 in top support. Jeremiah Mott notched 13. Trevor Hamm and Grant Brunner each had 10.
