Prep Hoops Roundup: Haberfield gets first win at Buckeye Local

NEW MANCHESTER – Brennan Czuchuran scored 26 points and was 7 of 7 from the free-throw line as he led Buckeye Local past Oak Glen, 57-55.

It wasn’t just the first win of the season for the Panthers, but it was the first coaching victory for Greg Haberfield with the Panthers.

Jonathon Borowski added 10 points and Dylan Doker wound up with 12 for the Panthers (1-3).

The Golden Bears (1-3) had four players in double figures, led by Bub Haddox (18). Tyler Click added 10, Brennan Smith 11 and Kyle Woodruff 12.

Madonna 80, St. John 44

WEIRTON – Ross Comis drained three 3s on his way to a game-high 22 points as Madonna won its season debut.

Will Bowser finished with 17 points for the Blue Dons (1-0), while Tyler Ewusiak and Comis combined for 18 rebounds.

Guy Pagano led St. John with 15 points and Garrett Holubeck had 11.


River 55, Magnolia 51

NEW MARTINSVILLE – Jensen Caretti busted out of a scoring slump and River snapped a four-game losing streak in the process here Wednesday night in girls’ high school basketball action.

The silky smooth sophomore scored season-high 29 points and pulled down 18 rebounds in leading the Pilots (5-4).

Landyn Ramsay chipped in 11 points, including three bonus goals, and Haylee Bowers donated nine points.

River led 14-5 after the first quarter and eventually built on that margin throughotu the game.

The Pilots host Buckeye Trail Monday.
