Representatives of both St. Clairsville and Martins Ferry made the trip to Branin Natatorium at Canton McKinley High School to take part in the Canton Invite, which brought more than 60 schools and 600 swimmers to Stark County.
To compete in the meet, a swimmer had to have made a qualifying mark earlier in the season.
St. Clairsville’s Michael Eaton advanced to the finals in both the 100 freestyle and the 100 breaststroke.
He was actually the top qualifier by more than two seconds in the breaststroke after posting a 59.17.
However, he and his mother Melanie, who is also his head coach, elected not to swim in the finals. Eaton took part in a national meet in Greensboro, N.C. last weekend.
“Michael was pleased with his swims in the morning under the circumstances, so he was happy with the much-needed rest. He performed very well, especially after returning from one of the biggest meets of his life,”?Melanie Eaton said via text message.
Also taking part for the Red Devils were Carly Falcone, D.J. Beck, Quentin Clark, Dylan Krone, Delainey Banks, Hanna Vera and Alaina Fasola.
Martins Ferry was led by frosh phenom Alyssa Kalinski, who took part in the 200 and 500 freestyles. She swam 2:06.57 and 5:38.44, respectively.
