Harrison Central rolls by Edison

CADIZ — Harrison Central’s defense held visiting Edison to single digits in three of four quarters as the Huskies rolled to a 57-32 win in the John W Stephenson Center.

The administration moved up the tip-off and scrapped both the jayvee game and senior night to get in the game before the snowfall and the Huskies’ senior Cody Evans was determined not to waste the opportunity as he nailed two three-point buckets helping his team jump out to a 10-2 lead.

The hosts would lead 21-8 after the opening frame.

“We played hard. We played good defense and we made some shots,” said Harrison Central coach Justin Clifford.

“We came out in the first quarter not ready to go,” said Edison head coach Nate Moses. “That has been the story on the road for us this season. They shot the ball really well but I was proud of the way we kept working hard.”

That hard work paid off as Edison would win the second quarter 13-10 to trail at the half by ten points 31-21.

When the Huskies came out in the third quarter their offense had cooled.

“We went about four minutes where we did not score a bucket,” Clifford related. “We still were able to keep the tempo and lead because of our defense.”

Brandon Mtchell broke the ice off the bucket with a pair of three-point shots, Cory Yoho added a jumper and Dustin Redish netted the first four of his perfect 6-6 outing at the foul line for a team total of 12 points while holding Edison to just 5 in the third.

Leading 43-26 the Huskies quickly moved ahead to a 20 point advantage and Clifford started handing out quarters to his bench.

“We had some guys who typically have not scored for us step up and make some shots,” Clifford added. “We know they are capable and we were real happy to see that.”

Brandon Mitchell paced the Huskies with 14 points. Evans finished with 12 points and 8 rebounds. Austin Kowalski chipped in with 9 points and Cory Yoho 7 points for the Huskies.Harrison Central went 7 of 2 from 2-point and 10 of 20 from 3-point while netting 13 of 19 from the charity stripe.

Erik Lee scored 9 points to lead the Wildcats offense.

Edison falls to 6-12 and is scheduled to travel to Weir tonight. The Huskies even their season mark at 8-8 and will attempt to honor their seniors as they are slated to host St. Clairsville this evening.
