PREP ROUNDUP: Linsly girls advance to 3A final

WHEELING – Vivian Allison and Jazzie Orth both scored 13 points and Linsly ran its winning streak to 18 with a 50-38 victory against Magnolia on Thursday night in a Wheeling Hospital OVAC Girls Basketball Tournament Class 3-A semifinal contest inside Stifel Fieldhouse.

The Cadets (18-1) advance to Saturday’s 10 a.m. final against Fort Frye. The Cadets bested Shenandoah, 69-29, in Thursday’s other semifinal.

J.J. Jackson added 12 points for the Cadets.

Mallory Chapman scored a game-high 24 points for the Blue Eagles.

Buckeye Local 57, Beaver Local 55

CONNORVILLE – Lauren Swiger’s offensive rebound basket with four seconds lifted homestanding Buckeye Local to a 57-55 victory over Beaver Local in a Class 4-A consolation round game.

Swiger, who finished with a game-high 29 points, deadlocked the game at 55 with a pair of free throws at the 16-second mark. Then, after a steal by the Panthers (3-17), they ran the clock down before getting the ball into Swiger’s hands. He first shot was off the mark, but she alertly snagged the rebound and scored the game-winner.

The Beavers (3-18) were not able to off a last-ditch effort.

Becky Zeroski added 16 points for Buckeye Local.

The Panthers travel to Cadiz Monday to meet Harrison Central.

Barnesville 58, Bishop Donahue 52

BARNESVILLE – The homestanding Shamrocks (11-8) held off the Bishops for the win Thursday night.

Shayla Markovich scored 15 points for Barnesville, while Sydney Ralston added a dozen. Miranda Plumly contributed nine.

Markovich completed her double-double with 10 rebounds. Plumly charted nine and handed out five assists. Ralston added four steals.

St. John 70, Valley 27

PINE GROVE – St. John Central used a 26-4 second quarter to blow open its game and cruise to a 70-27 victory in the OVAC Girls Basketball Consolation matchup.

The Lady Irish led 14-12 after one, but proceeded to outscore the Lumberjills, 52-15 for the remainder of the contest.

The Lady Irish were led by sophomore Marissa Rose, who had 20 points. Taylor Lowe added 16, Jessica Alvey had 13 and Lindsey Froehlich netted 12.

Toronto 75, Beallsville 31

TORONTO – The homestanding Red Knights weren’t very gracious to the visiting Blue Devils as they sprinted to a 25-0 lead after the first eight minutes.

Beallsville trailed 49-6 at the half.

Talitha Bedford scored 16 points for the Blue Devils. Dicey Stewart added 11.

Wheeling Park 82, Union Local 75

MORRISTOWN – Wheeling Park knocked in 13 3-point goals and held off a late Union Local rally for a 82-75 victory Thursday evening in an OVAC Tournament Consolation Game.

The Lady Patriots scored 25 points in both the first and fourth quarters.

Kendra Johnson led Park with 19 points, while Haley Robb added 18 points.

Union Local was led by senior ace Cori Medley, who scored 25 points. Alli Delaney added 20 and Mikalya Patton netted 15.

Weir 53, Bellaire 41

WEIRTON – The host Red Riders led 23-14 after one period and 32-19 at the half en route to thumping the Big Reds inside the Carl Hamill Fieldhouse.

Kierstyn Kidder paced Bellaire with 16 points, including four treys. Cari Crozier added 11.
