PREP ROUNDUP: Magnolia boys defeat Monroe

WOODSFIELD – Invading Magnolia exacted some revenge for a season-opening loss to Monroe Central with a 82-68 victory.

The Blue Eagles were led by Spencer Campbell’s 28 points.

Talented sophomore Preston Boswell added 17 and Zach Wilhoite netted 14. Mitch Winters netted 10.

The Seminoles were led by Bryan Duffy’s 24 points. Zach Jorris added 13 points.

Monroe is now 12-4 on the season and will entertain Steubenville Central in an OVAC Class 3A semifinal on Tuesday night.

The Blue Eagles are 12-5 and will venture to Harrison Central the same evening.

Buckeye Trail 44, River 27

HANNIBAL – The homestanding River Pilots found themselves down two heading to the fourth quarter Friday night, but the wheels fell off as Buckeye Trail outscored them, 17-2, en route to a 44-27 victory.

The loss drops River to 2-16 on the season, while the Warriors are 11-7.

The Pilots were led by senior Eric Dierkes, who scored 12 points.

The Warriors, who have 11 seniors on their roster, were paced by Troy Starr’s 17. Jed Burga added 10.

Indian Creek 55, Harrison Central 45

WINTERSVILLE – Indian Creek pulled away from Harrison Central for a victory in a Buckeye 8 encounter Friday night.

The Redskins were led by Jonathan Haught’s 13 points. Jonathan Woodbury added nine.

Harrison Central, which is now 9-9, was led by Dustin Redish’s 15. Austin Kowalski added 14.

St. Clairsville 64, Oak Glen 48

ST. CLAIRSVILLE – The Lady Red Devils put the finishing touches on their regular season with a ictory against Oak Glen in the Class 4A consolation game.

The Lady Red Devils, who are now 15-6, will meet West Muskingum Wednesday in Cambridge in the Division III sectional tournament.

Junior Alexis St. Clair scored 17 points to lead the Lady Red Devils.

Sophomore Anna DeFilippo adfded 15 and senior Carlee Gillespie netted 11.

Monroe Central 61, Clay-Battelle 35

WOODSFIELD – Allison Kuhn scored 15 points and Laycie Ball added 11 as Monroe Central throttled Clay-Battelle.

Erin Miller added 10 points for the Seminoles (8-9). Kayleigh Marley had team highs of eight boards and five steals.

Katlyn Casino canned five 3-pointers en route to 19 points for the Cee-Bees (7-9).

Steubenville Catholic 53, Beallsville 37

BEALLSVILLE – Micca Mirabella had 11 points and Steubenville Catholic made its long trip to Beallsville pay off with a victory.

Brittany Bertoia added 10 points for the Crusaders (7-12).

Dicey Stewart poured in a game-high 23 points for the Blue Devils (6-15). Talitha Bedford added 10.

Shadyside 58, Hundred 31

HUNDRED – Toni Andes exploded for 26 points as Shadyside picked up its second victory of the season by topping Hundred.

Jonna Eneix and Layne Hendershot each added nine points for the Tigers.


Monroe Central 52, Martins Ferry 19

MARTINS FERRY – Kuhn scored 12 points and Annie Digity added 11 as Monroe Central topped Martins Ferry inside Tolbert Gymnasium.

Sydney Bridges paced the Purple Riders with six points.
