PREP BASEBALL: Bellaire, Ferry, Bridgeport all sweep twinbills
MARTINS FERRY – Robert Vargo racked up four singles, a double and five RBI as Martins Ferry ran its winning streak to three Saturday by sweeping Harrison Central, 5-3 and 8-6, in a high school baseball doubleheader at Martins Ferry High School.
The Purple Riders (7-6) exploded for six runs in the sixth inning of Game 2 to rally from a 4-2 deficit. Seth Scott added a single and two RBI for Martins Ferry in that victory, while Matt Barbour had a double and an RBI.
Nick Staten and Dalton Rutter each singled and knocked in two for the Huskies (6-6).
Cade Lloyd earned the pitching victory in Game 1, striking out four. Scott doubled and had two RBI.
Dustin Redish slapped two singles and had an RBI for Harrison Central, while Ian Saho singled and drove in two.
Paden City 6-3
BROOKSIDE – Bridgeport scored six runs in the sixth inning to rally for a game 1 victory en route to a doubleheader sweep of Paden City at the Niekro Diamond at Perkins Field.
Andrew Hadzima paced the Bulldogs with two singles, three RBI and a run. Bailey McGrath doubled, singled, scored twice and knocked in two runs, while QJ Williams and Brad Pritchett both swiped two bases.
Williams slapped two singles and plated two runs in Bridgeport’s game 2 triumph. Parker Dyson singled and knocked in a pair, while McGrath had two singles and scored twice.
Bridgeport (11-2) visit Barnesville on Monday.
Bellaire 11, Indian Creek 0
BELLAIRE – Spencer Badia and Hunter Westlake homered as Bellaire blanked Indian Creek.
Badia, who twirled a two-hitter and fanned four, knocked in two runs, while Westlake, plated three. Tyler West also drove in a run for the Big Reds.
Bellaire 2, Shadyside 0
BELLAIRE – Nick Patrone tossed a one-hitter and struck out nine as Bellaire topped Shadyside.
Nathan Steele and Westlake both slapped two singles for the Big Reds, while Brendon Ross singled and had two RBI.
Shamrock Diamond Classic
West Muskingum 6, Barnesville 2
Jacob Keiser slapped four singles and drove home a run, but it wasn’t enough as West Muskingum captured third place.
Logan Schultz added a single and an RBI for the Shamrocks.
Monroe Central 11, Barnesville 4
Chad Alleman exploded for a homer, three singles and three RBI as Monroe Central advanced to the championship game by clobbering the host.
Seth Alleman added a double and an RBI for the Seminoles, while Tanner Burkhart singled and plated a run.
Keiser doubled and knocked in three and David Stewart and Mitchell Wells each added two hits.
Wheeling Central 11, West Muskingum 5
Jeff Gwynn had two singles and three RBI to help Wheeling Central get past West Muskingum and into the championship game.
Nick Bakaitis added two singles and an RBI for the Maroon Knights.
