PREP SOFTBALL: Goudy, Bowers aid River sweep

SARDIS – Gabby Goudy and Haylee Bowers combined for 10 base hits as homestanding River swept a girls’ high school softball doubleheader from visiting Caldwell Saturday afternoon.

Bowers doubled twice and singled twice to drive in a pair of runs in a 14-4 win in the opener. Goudy singled and doubled to plate one run.

Madi Taylor had two singles and two RBI for the Pilots, while Mikayla Cieszeski doubled in a run.

In the nightcap, Goudy singled twice and doubled, while also striking out 13 and allowing just three hits in a 6-1 nod.

Bowers had an RBI triple and Rosie Romick a three-bagger.

River is 11-1 and visits Shadyside Monday.

At St. Clairsville, Ashley Baker doubled twice and homered to drive in two runs as the Red Devils (4-4) salvaged a split in their doubleheader with the Tornadoes.

Antonia Hummel led the winners’ 16-hit attack with two doubles and a single that plated three runs. Summer Gallentine knocked in a pair of runs with a single and double, while Carlee Gillespie singled twice and doubled to produce a run.

Mackenzi Otto had a pair of base raps and two RBI. Lauren Figura singled in a run.

In the opener, Figura drove in two runs with a single and double. Gillespie had three singles and a run batted in.

St. Clairsville hosts Bellaire Monday.
