Shadyside, River girls bounce back
SHADYSIDE – After a tough loss to rival St. John Central 24 hours earlier, Shadyside bounced back with a 11-1 rout of visiting Beallsville Tuesday afternoon in girls’ high school softball action at the Meade Township Park Complex.
Junior Megan Heagney fired a 1-hitter and struck out 10 with a walk. She also cranked a 2-run homer to highlight an 8-run second inning. Bethanie Ramsey rapped a 2-run single, also in the second, while Lindsey Dunn singled twice.
The Tigers (3-2) remain at home today when Monroe Central visits.
The Blue Devils (2-3) avoided being no-hit when Laykottaha Taylor singled in the third inning.
River 9, Tyler Consolidated 0
At Sardis, the Lady Pilots (7-1) also rebounded nicely from their first setback of the season as senior Gabby Goudy fashioned a no-hitter against the visiting Silver Knights (5-6).
Goudy fanned 10 and walked four in tossing her gem.
She was helped out by back-to-back home runs by Mackenzie Marshall and Haylee Bowers in the fifth inning. Bowers, who now has 10 career homers, finished a single shy of the cycle and had two ribbies, while Marshall added a single and another run batted in. Emilie Heater singled twice to drive in a run, while Zoe Rush tripled.
Harrison Central 1, Buckeye Local 0
At Connorville, Katie Ellzy fired a 1-hitter and fanned nine as the visiting Huskies (4-0) blanked the Panthers (1-1).
Roni Caldwell’s first-inning RBI was all the run support Ellzy would need.
Carlee Leonard had Buckeye Local’s only hit, a single.
Indian Creek 8, St. Clairsville 2
At St. Clairsville, Paige Geanangel struck out seven, didn’t walk a batter and allowed five hits as the Redskins (4-0) remained unbeaten. She also singled twice and doubled to drive in three runs.
Bethany Davis also knocked in three runs for the Creek.
Lauren Figura had an RBI single for the Red Devils (3-3). Michaela Miller tripled and Antonia Hummel had an RBI.
Wheeling Central 10, Martins Ferry 7
At Wheeling, the Maroon Knights scored all of their runs in the first three innings in handing the Purple Riders their first loss of the campaign.
Brooklyn Monroe had three one-base raps for Martins Ferry. Tyrah King singled twice and doubled, while Kady Webb smacked two doubles. Mercedez McLeod had two singles.
