Shadyside Football Moms meeting

Shadyside Football moms are holding a meeting on Tuesday, June 3 at 6:30 p.m. in the multi-purpose room at the high school. All moms of players in grades 9-12 this fall are encouraged to attend. Lady Irish Hoopsters Serving at Buffalo Wild Wings

The St. John Central Lady Irish basketball team is holding a celebrity server at Buffalo Wild Wings in St. Clairsville on Wednesday, June 4, from 6-8 p.m.

A 50-50 drawing will also be held.

All proceeds will help defray the costs of the girls’ hoop team summer expenses.

Bridgeport Girls’ Basketball Meeting

Ferry Summer Swim Team Still Accepting Registrations

The Martins Ferry Summer Swim Team is still accepting registrations to join the team. Anyone interested can sign up at practice Monday-Friday. New/beginners and skilled beginners start at 5:45 pm and intermediate and advanced swimmers start at 6:15 pm. The first meet is Saturday, June 14.

Shadyside Boys Basketball Camp

The 18th annual Shadyside Basketball Camp is for boys in grades 3-8, next year. The camp will be held June 2-5 at the high school small gym and outdoor courts from 9 a.m. until noon. Campers will receive fundamental instruction, awards for daily contests, full-court games, t-shirt, and daily refreshment. Cost of Camp is $35 per camper. Mike McFarland Memorial 5K

Registrations are being accepted for the 2nd annual St. John Central Interact Club’s Mike McFarland Memorial 5K, hosted by the All-American Days Festival in Bellaire. Cost is $20 by June 2 and $25 on race day, which is Saturday, June 7 at 9 a.m. at the Bellaire Park Fountain. Trophies will be awarded to the top male and female runners. First- and second-place winners in each age group will also be awarded. T-shirts for pre-registrants only. Barnesville Free Sports Physicals Available

There will be free sports physical examinations available at Barnesville Family Health Center for boys and girls of Barnesville schools entering grades 7-12 who will be participating in sports during the 20-14-2015 school year on the following days:

  • Wed., June 18 – boys in grades 7-8-9 from 8:30-10:15 a.m. and girls in grades 7-8-9 from 10:15 a.m.-noon.
  • Thurs., June 19 – boys in grades 10-11-12 from 8:30-10:15 a.m. and girls in grades 10-11-12 from 10:30 a.m.-noon.

All students must have the parental portion of the physical form completed. You must being the new 2014-15 pre-participation physical evaluation form available in the high school office.

Wheeling Little Patriots Steak Fry

Bridgeport Physicals Planned for June 13

Bridgeport High physicals will be offered on June 13. Athletes are to meet in the high school gymnasium and then they’ll be sent to Dr. Laslo’s office. The times are as follows: for athletes entering grades 10-12 it’s 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. and for athletes entering grades 7-9 it’s 12:30-3:30 p.m. Forms are availble for pick up in the high school principal’s office. Even if the athlete plans on getting the physical through a family doctor, he or she must still get the physical form.

Powhatan Summer League Forming

The 42nd annual Powhatan Summer League is now accepting player registrations for this summer’s league. Registration is open to high school graduates age 18 and over. The registration fee is $45. Bellaire Basketball Camp Slated

The Bellaire Basketball Camp will begin Monday, June 9 through Thursday, June 12. Camp times are 9 a.m. until noon at the Bellaire High School gyms. The program is open to both boys and girls grades kindergarten through eight (8) and open to all school districts.

Special emphasis will be given to the fundamentals: Body balance and pivoting, starting and stopping, ball handling and dribbling, passing and catching, screening and cutting, boxing out and shooting. Lectures will be delivered on drug and alcohol prevention, teamwork, attitude, scholastic achievement, goal setting, success and more.

Fun activities like dribble tag, lay-up competitions, full court basketball games, etc. will also be included. Each participant will receive a Bellaire Basketball t-shirt. Smaller basketballs and lower hoops will be available for younger campers.

The Bellaire High Youth Football Camp, set for Monday, June 2 to Thursday, June 5, is designed to give campers the finest football instruction possible, and at the same time, give campers a full week of fun and a stepping stone to becoming a more confident football player. Campers will be associating with some of the best young athletes in the Ohio Valley.

The camp is open to athletes entering second grade through eight grade. This is not a conditioning or recreational camp.

Athletes are reminded to bring shorts, socks and cleated shoes, if possible. A camp t-shirt will be presented to each camper.

The entry fee is $30 for pre-registered and $40 for walk-up. Early registration is encouraged and the fee is non-refundable.

Special position training will be afforded. Also, a daily inspirational talk by a member of the camp staff, as well as former Big Red greats.

Bellaire High School Speed Camp

Bellaire High School will be holding a speed camp for any boy or girl in grades 1-12 on June 16-19 from 9:30-11 a.m. at Nelson Field.

Participants are asked to wear athletic clothes and shoes. They are also asked to bring a water bottle and a positive attitude.

The cost is $30 for pre-registration and $40 on the day of the camp. Registration begins at 9 a.m. on the first day of camp. Pre-registration can be done by mailing a completed form, along with check payable to Bellaire Athletic Department, 349 35th Street, Bellaire, Oh., 43906.

Each camper will receive a t-shirt.

What is speed camp? It is a 4-day camp where athletes of all ages will kearn the fundamentals on how to run.

NIKE Basketball Camp coming to Wheeling Middle School

Nike Basketball Camps are thrilled to welcome Matt Wilson, a Nike Basketball Director and Training Specialist to Wheeling Middle School. Coach Wilson will be leading one week of complete skills camp for boys, ages 9 to 15, at Wheeling Middle School, in Wheeling from June 9-12. Goals of this camp are for players to develop and redefine their basketball skills to become complete players. Coach Wilson has trained players around the world from youth to the NBA. Campers will be surrounded by qualified coaches and basketball skill trainers who have extensive experience working with elite high school, college, and professional players. Wilson is well experienced and dedicated to ensuring that all campers have a valuable experience while improving and gaining new skills. Through drills, individual instruction, and competition our hope is for all campers to come out better and more experienced basketball players. Campers will be instructed on Shooting technique and fundamentals, Offensive skill development, Competition games & drills, Offense & Defense principals, and compete in 5-on-5, 3-on-3, 1-on-1 competition. All campers will receive an official Nike T-shirt, Nike Pro Workbook, and Nike prizes.

PAV Seminar at Barnesville High School

The Barnesville High School Athletic Department, in conjunction with Tim Berger, will conduct a state certified pupil activity validation seminar (sports medicine certification) before the fall season begins. The workshop will take place in the Barnesville High School multi-use room (Room 127) on Tuesday, July 29 at 5:30 p.m. The cost of the workshop is $25. All coaches will be certified with the Ohio State Department of Education for a three-year period. The workshop is not affiliated with any league or conference series.

The sixth annual Jessica Mayle Spikefest will be held at Buckeye Local High School on Saturday, June 28. Games begin at 8 a.m. The entry fee is $125 per team before June 6, which is the deadline. The event will consist of pool play and then the teams placed onto a bracket based on records in pool play. All proceeds from the event benefit the Jessica Mayle Scholarship Fund. St. Clairsville Cheering Clinic

The St. Clairsville cheerleaders will be holding their annual cheering clinic through Friday from 1-3:30 p.m. at the St. Clairsville High School gym. The cost of the clinic is $40 per child which includes a t-shirt and a medal. There is a family discount if you have more than one child. Students entering grades K through 8th for next school year are eligible to attend and the clinic is open to all school districts. OVAC Offering Football Officials Academy at Ferry

The OVAC Football Officiating Academy will begin on Wednesday at Martins Ferry High School and run weekly for 10 weeks. There will be classroom sessions focused on rules and professional development, as well as on-field lessons working on mechanics and techniques. There’s no charge to attend the academy. Graduates will become registered in West Virginia and Ohio to be eligible to officiate football at every level below varsity for the 2014 season.

Bridgeport High physicals will be offered on June 13. Athletes are to meet in the high school gymnasium and then they’ll be sent to Dr. Laslo’s office. The Bellaire Basketball Camp will begin Monday, June 9 through Thursday, June 12. Camp times are 9 a.m. until noon at the Bellaire High School gyms. The program is open to both boys and girls grades kindergarten through eight (8) and open to all school districts.

Special emphasis will be given to the fundamentals: Body balance and pivoting, starting and stopping, ball handling and dribbling, passing and catching, screening and cutting, boxing out and shooting. Lectures will be delivered on drug and alcohol prevention, teamwork, attitude, scholastic achievement, goal setting, success and more. Fun activities like dribble tag, lay-up competitions, full court basketball games, etc. will also be included. Each participant will receive a Bellaire Basketball t-shirt. Smaller basketballs and lower hoops will be available for younger campers.

The Bellaire High Youth Football Camp is designed to give campers the finest football instruction possible, and at the same time, give campers a full week of fun and a stepping stone to becoming a more confident football player. Campers will be associating with some of the best young athletes in the Ohio Valley.

The camp is open to athletes entering second grade through eight grade. This is not a conditioning or recreational camp.

Athletes are reminded to bring shorts, socks and cleated shoes, if possible. A camp t-shirt will be presented to each camper.

Nike Basketball Camps are thrilled to welcome Matt Wilson, a Nike Basketball Director and Training Specialist to Wheeling Middle School. The OVAC Football Officiating Academy will begin on Wednesday at Martins Ferry High School and run weekly for 10 weeks. The Barnesville High School Athletic Department, in conjunction with Tim Berger, will conduct a state certified pupil activity validation seminar (sports medicine certification) before the fall season begins. The Bellaire Basketball Camp will begin Monday, June 9 through Thursday, June 12. Camp times are 9 a.m. until noon at the Bellaire High School gyms. The program is open to both boys and girls grades kindergarten through eight (8) and open to all school districts.

Special emphasis will be given to the fundamentals: Body balance and pivoting, starting and stopping, ball handling and dribbling, passing and catching, screening and cutting, boxing out and shooting. Lectures will be delivered on drug and alcohol prevention, teamwork, attitude, scholastic achievement, goal setting, success and more. Fun activities like dribble tag, lay-up competitions, full court basketball games, etc. will also be included. Each participant will receive a Bellaire Basketball t-shirt.

Smaller basketballs and lower hoops will be available for younger campers.

NIKE Basketball Camp coming to Wheeling Middle School

Nike Basketball Camps are thrilled to welcome Matt Wilson, a Nike Basketball Director and Training Specialist to Wheeling Middle School. Coach Wilson will be leading one week of complete skills camp for boys, ages 9 to 15, at Wheeling Middle School, in Wheeling from June 9-12. Goals of this camp are for players to develop and redefine their basketball skills to become complete players. Coach Wilson has trained players around the world from youth to the NBA. Campers will be surrounded by qualified coaches and basketball skill trainers who have extensive experience working with elite high school, college, and professional players. Wilson is well experienced and dedicated to ensuring that all campers have a valuable experience while improving and gaining new skills. PAV Seminar at Barnesville High School

The Barnesville High School Athletic Department, in conjunction with Tim Berger, will conduct a state certified pupil activity validation seminar (sports medicine certification) before the fall season begins. The workshop will take place in the Barnesville High School multi-use room (Room 127) on Tuesday, July 29 at 5:30 p.m. The cost of the workshop is $25. All coaches will be certified with the Ohio State Department of Education for a three-year period. The workshop is not affiliated with any league or conference series.

The OVAC Football Officiating Academy will begin on May 21 at Martins Ferry High School and run weekly for 10 weeks. Football Officials Academy

The OVAC Football Officiating Academy will begin on May 21 at Martins Ferry High School and run weekly for 10 weeks. There will be classroom sessions focused on rules and professional development, as well as on-field lessons working on mechanics and techniques. There’s no charge to attend the academy. Graduates will become registered in West Virginia and Ohio to be eligible to officiate football at every level below varsity for the 2014 season.

Jessica Mayle Spikefest set for June 28

The sixth annual Jessica Mayle Spikefest will be held at Buckeye Local High School on Saturday, June 28. Games begin at 8 a.m. The entry fee is $100 per team if registered by May 16 and $125 per team before June 6, which is the deadline. The event will consist of pool play and then the teams placed onto a bracket based on records in pool play. All proceeds from the event benefit the Jessica Mayle Scholarship Fund. The 19th annual Steak Fry & Dance, sponsored by the St. Clairsville Area Soccer Association to support the Capstone Soccer Complex Development, will be held Sat., May 17 at Memorial Park in St. Clairsville from 6-11 p.m. Tickets are $20 each and can be purchased from any St. Clairsville Area Soccer Association member or coach. St. C. Spring Banquet

The St. Clairsville High School Spring Sports Banquet will be held on Wednesday, May 14 in the cafetorium. Doors open at 5:45 p.m. and the awards program begins at 6:30 p.m. Invitations have been mailed to all spring sports athletes and their families. Ferry Swim Registration

The Martins Ferry Summer Swim Team is holding registration today and Tuesday, May 13 at the Martins Ferry Rec. Center dining room from 6-7:30 p.m. Cost is $40 for one swimmer and $30 for each additional swimmer per family. Cost includes a free t-shirt and latex swim cap. Anyone ages 4 through graduating senior are encouraged to swim (you can live in OH, WV, or PA). Practice will begin on Tuesday, May 27. Bellaire Basketball Camp

The Bellaire Basketball Camp will begin Monday, June 9 through Thursday, June 12. Camp times are 9 a.m. until noon at the Bellaire High School gyms. The program is open to both boys and girls grades kindergarten through eight (8) and open to all school districts.

Special emphasis will be given to the fundamentals: Body balance and pivoting, starting and stopping, ball handling and dribbling, passing and catching, screening and cutting, boxing out and shooting. Lectures will be delivered on drug and alcohol prevention, teamwork, attitude, scholastic achievement, goal setting, success and more. Fun activities like dribble tag, lay-up competitions, full court basketball games, etc. will also be included. Each participant will receive a Bellaire Basketball t-shirt. Smaller basketballs and lower hoops will be available for younger campers.

Barnesville PAV Seminar

The Barnesville High School Athletic Department, in conjunction with Tim Berger, will conduct a state certified pupil activity validation seminar (sports medicine certification) before the fall season begins. The workshop will take place in the Barnesville High School multi-use room (Room 127) on Tuesday, July 29 at 5:30 p.m. The cost of the workshop is $25. All coaches will be certified with the Ohio State Department of Education for a three-year period. The workshop is not affiliated with any league or conference series.
