OVBL: Lafferty now 4-0
LAFFERTY – Trailing visiting Marshall County 8-2 after five innings, Lafferty scored three times in the sixth, added three more runs in the seventh, and used Tyler McGary’s RBI double in the eighth to walk-off a winner, 9-8, in Steele and Cook Insurance Ohio Valley Baseball League action late Friday night on the Community Park diamond.
Clay Francis went 3-for-4 with a trio of singles and two RBI. He scored the game-winning run from first on McGary’s two-bagger. Zeke Wharton had three runs batted in on a bases-clearing double in the seventh to tie the game at 8-all.
Alex Stephens and Matt Masarick each had two singles, while Jordan Barbina had a pinch-hit double.
The Dodgers are now 4-0 and will host the Wheeling Cardinals today at 1 p.m. The Monarchs fell to 0-3 and will travel to St. Clairsville to meet the Belmont County Cubs.
In other action from Friday, Jefferson County defeated Belmont County, 5-3; Weirton toppled Hannibal, 8-1; and Shadyside won by forfeit over the Wheeling Toppers.
Maynard visits Weirton in today’s action, while Shadyside is at Barton and Jefferson County visiting the Wheeling Yankees.
