Streaking Monroe whitewashes River
WOODSFIELD – Ethan Groves fired a one-hitter and his Monroe Central teammates erupted for 12 runs in the third inning to roll by visiting River, 14-0, in six innings.
Groves struck out eight and walked one.
He allowed a first-inning single to Cole Isaly with two outs.
Devin Jackson belted a two-run homer in the second and added a single to finish with four runs batted in.
Evan Blackstone singled thrice to drive in two runs. Tanner Burkhart had two singles and a like number of RBI.
Monroe Central (11-8), which has won five straight games, travels to Old Washington today to meet Buckeye Trail.
St. John 11, Hundred 3
At Hundred, Malik Ford had two doubles, three runs and three stolen bases as the Irish walloped the Hornets.
Jared Keiser added two singles and three stolen bases for the Irish, while Jonathan Bossell and Brian Bossell both singled and drove in two runs.
The Irish return to action Thursday at home against Frontier.
Buckeye Local 15, Bridgeport 4
At Brookside, Buckeye Local exploded for six runs in the second inning en route top topping Bridgeport on the Niekro Diamond at Perkins Field.
Jonathan Borkoski and Josh Figuriski both belted grand slams to pace Buckeye Local’s attack.
Eric Williams went 4-for-5 with three doubles and scoring two runs for the Panthers (15-4). Eric Banal added a double, single and three RBI, while Chase Hopkins singled and scored three runs.
Brad Pritchett, Parker Dyson and QJ Williams all laced two singles for the Bulldogs (15-6).
Steubenville 8, Bellaire 7
At Steubenville, Big Red scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh to rally for the victory against Bellaire.
Steubenville (17-4) trailed 7-1 before scoring seven runs in their final two at-bats to garner the triumph.
Hunter Westlake tripled and knocked in two runs for Bellaire (12-6), while Brendon Ross had two singles and two RBI and Tyler West laced two singles and drove in a run.
