Bellaire Cheerleaders Kiddie Camp

The Bellaire Cheerleaders Kiddie Camp will be held June 16-19 from 10 a.m. until noon at the Bellaire High School gymnasium. Campers will learn cheers, dances and have some fun.

The Athletic Council of the Shadyside High School District Board of Education will meet on Thursday, June 26 at 6 p.m. in the board of education conference room. The meeting will entail discussion of various upcoming activities.

Bellaire Junior Sports All-Star Tournaments

Morristown Pinto Tournament Slated

The Showdown in Motown 8U Pinto Tournament will be held at Lynn Hunkler Memorial Park in Morristown July 10-12. The deadline to register is July 3. The entry fee is $150 plus two baseballs. Union Local TD Club Steak Fry

The Union Local Touchdown Club will be holding a steak fry on Saturday, June 28 at 4 p.m. at the Lynn Hunkler Memorial Park in Morristown. A proceeds go to the football program.

OVFCA Seeking Nominations

The Ohio Valley Football Coaches Association is in the process of accepting applications for nominations for retired assistant football coaches with 25 years of service, with at least 15 of those in the OVAC. The recommendations, may be sent to either Reno Saccoccia, Dave Bruney or Mike Young. We would be inducting these coaches into the hall next winter. Pinto Challenge Registration Ongoing

The 2014 Pinto Challenge will be held July 16-20 at the I-470 Complex. This years event promises to be bigger and better than years past. Rosters will consist of players that are 7 & 8 years old and this is a coach pitch event. The first 12 paid teams will be accepted and they will receive Pirate tickets for every player. Martins Ferry City Schools will be conducting athletic physicals for Martins Ferry City School students that will be entering grades 7-12 on Thursday, June 19. Wheeling Hospital’s Dr. Dan Jones, a Purple Rider alum, will be conducting the exams. All athletes are required to have a physical in order to participate during the 2014-2015 school year. Pre-evaluation forms are required. They are available at the high school or junior high offices or can be downloaded from www.ohsaa.org. No student will be permitted to take a physical without parent/guardian signature.

The schedule is as follows: 3-3:45 p.m. – juniors and seniors are to report; 3:45-4:30 sophomores and freshmen; 4:30 – 7th and 8th grade.

Students should report in this order: Grade 12 at 5:30 p.m.; Grade 11 at 6; Grade 10 at 6:30; Grade 9 at 7; Grade 8 at 7:30, Grade 7 at 8. There will be a $10 fee that goes along with these physicals. Checks can be made out to Shadyside High School, or pay cash. Payment can be made at physicals. Students must have proper OHSAA physical form with them and it must be signed ahead of time by parent. These can be picked up at the high school in the main office. Barnesville Free Sports Physicals Available

There will be free sports physical examinations available at Barnesville Family Health Center for boys and girls of Barnesville schools entering grades 7-12 who will be participating in sports during the 2014-2015 school year on the following days:

  • Wed., June 18 – boys in grades 7-8-9 from 8:30-10:15 a.m. and girls in grades 7-8-9 from 10:15 a.m.-noon.
  • Thurs., June 19 – boys in grades 10-11-12 from 8:30-10:15 a.m. and girls in grades 10-11-12 from 10:30 a.m.-noon.

All students must have the parental portion of the physical form completed. You must being the new 2014-15 pre-participation physical evaluation form available in the high school office.

Bellaire High School Speed Camp

Bellaire High School will be holding a speed camp for any boy or girl in grades 1-12 on June 16-19 from 9:30-11 a.m. at Nelson Field.

Participants are asked to wear athletic clothes and shoes. They are also asked to bring a water bottle and a positive attitude.

The cost is $30 for pre-registration and $40 on the day of the camp. Registration begins at 9 a.m. on the first day of camp. Pre-registration can be done by mailing a completed form, along with check payable to Bellaire Athletic Department, 349 35th Street, Bellaire, Oh., 43906.

Each camper will receive a t-shirt.

What is speed camp? It is a 4-day camp where athletes of all ages will learn the fundamentals on how to run.

PAV Seminar at Barnesville High School

The Barnesville High School Athletic Department, in conjunction with Tim Berger, will conduct a state certified pupil activity validation seminar (sports medicine certification) before the fall season begins. The workshop will take place in the Barnesville High School multi-use room (Room 127) on Tuesday, July 29 at 5:30 p.m. The cost of the workshop is $25. All coaches will be certified with the Ohio State Department of Education for a three-year period. The workshop is not affiliated with any league or conference series.

The 42nd annual Powhatan Summer League is now accepting player registrations for this summer’s league. Registration is open to high school graduates age 18 and over. The registration fee is $45. The Bellaire Basketball Camp will begin Monday through Thursday. Camp times are 9 a.m. until noon at the Bellaire High School gyms. The program is open to both boys and girls grades kindergarten through eight (8) and open to all school districts.

Special emphasis will be given to the fundamentals: Body balance and pivoting, starting and stopping, ball handling and dribbling, passing and catching, screening and cutting, boxing out and shooting. Lectures will be delivered on drug and alcohol prevention, teamwork, attitude, scholastic achievement, goal setting, success and more. Fun activities like dribble tag, lay-up competitions, full court basketball games, etc. will also be included. Each participant will receive a Bellaire Basketball t-shirt. Smaller basketballs and lower hoops will be available for younger campers.

Bellaire High School will be holding a speed camp for any boy or girl in grades 1-12 on June 16-19 from 9:30-11 a.m. at Nelson Field.

Participants are asked to wear athletic clothes and shoes. They are also asked to bring a water bottle and a positive attitude.

The cost is $30 for pre-registration and $40 on the day of the camp. Registration begins at 9 a.m. on the first day of camp. Pre-registration can be done by mailing a completed form, along with check payable to Bellaire Athletic Department, 349 35th Street, Bellaire, Oh., 43906.

Each camper will receive a t-shirt.

What is speed camp? It is a 4-day camp where athletes of all ages will kearn the fundamentals on how to run.

The Barnesville High School Athletic Department, in conjunction with Tim Berger, will conduct a state certified pupil activity validation seminar (sports medicine certification) before the fall season begins. The workshop will take place in the Barnesville High School multi-use room (Room 127) on Tuesday, July 29 at 5:30 p.m. The cost of the workshop is $25. All coaches will be certified with the Ohio State Department of Education for a three-year period. The workshop is not affiliated with any league or conference series.

Martins Ferry Slates Physicals

Martins Ferry City Schools will be conducting athletic physicals for Martins Ferry City School students that will be entering grades 7-12 on June 19. Wheeling Hospital’s Dr. Dan Jones, a Purple Rider alum, will be conducting the exams. All athletes are required to have a physical in order to participate during the 2014-2015 school year. Pre-evaluation forms are required. They are available at the high school or junior high offices or can be downloaded from www.ohsaa.org. No student will be permitted to take a physical without parent/guardian signature.

The schedule is as follows: 3-3:45 p.m. – juniors and seniors are to report; 3:45-4:30 sophomores and freshmen; 4:30 – 7th and 8th grade.

Martins Ferry Football Parents to Meet

The Martins Ferry football parents will hold their first meeting of the 2014 season on Tuesday, June 10 at the Martins Ferry Rec Center. The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. Parents of players in grades 7 through 12 are invited and encouraged to attend.

Shadyside Physicals Slated for June 25

Athletic physicals for all Shadyside student athletes for school year 2014-2015, will be held on Wednesday, June 25 at Wheeling Hospital. Athletic physicals are required by the OHSAA in order to participate in all sports. Students should report to the main lobby of Tower 4 and wait for instructions from Athletic Director. Students should report in this order: Grade 12 at 5:30 p.m.; Grade 11 at 6; Grade 10 at 6:30; Grade 9 at 7; Grade 8 at 7:30, Grade 7 at 8. There will be a $10 fee that goes along with these physicals. Checks can be made out to Shadyside High School, or pay cash. Payment can be made at physicals. Students must have proper OHSAA physical form with them and it must be signed ahead of time by parent. These can be picked up at the high school in the main office. NIKE Basketball Camp coming to Wheeling Middle School

Nike Basketball Camps are thrilled to welcome Matt Wilson, a Nike Basketball Director and Training Specialist to Wheeling Middle School. Coach Wilson will be leading one week of complete skills camp for boys, ages 9 to 15, at Wheeling Middle School, in Wheeling from June 9-12. Goals of this camp are for players to develop and redefine their basketball skills to become complete players. Coach Wilson has trained players around the world from youth to the NBA. Campers will be surrounded by qualified coaches and basketball skill trainers who have extensive experience working with elite high school, college, and professional players. Wilson is well experienced and dedicated to ensuring that all campers have a valuable experience while improving and gaining new skills. Through drills, individual instruction, and competition our hope is for all campers to come out better and more experienced basketball players. Campers will be instructed on Shooting technique and fundamentals, Offensive skill development, Competition games & drills, Offense & Defense principals, and compete in 5-on-5, 3-on-3, 1-on-1 competition. All campers will receive an official Nike T-shirt, Nike Pro Workbook, and Nike prizes.

Wheeling Rec. Girls Junior Pro Leagues

The Wheeling Recreation Department will again sponsor a Jr. Pro Basketball League during the month of July. This league is primarily for girls entering the 7th & 8th grade next school year. Games will be held Saturday A.M., Sunday and Wednesday evenings.
