Maynard making late-season push
MAYNARD – The Steele and Cook Insurance Ohio Valley Baseball League’s defending champions are finally hitting their stride.
Maynard (11-4) may have only rang up three hits, but that was all it would need in slipping past visiting Weirton (7-4) by a 3-2 count Tuesday night on the Firemen’s Field diamond at the Community Park.
Ryan Jarvie belted a two-run homer in the second inning and D.J. Busby scored on a throwing error in the third as the hosts built a 3-0 advantage.
The Red Dons made it 3-2 in the sixth on RBI singles by Seth Fluharty and Darren Heatherington.
Michael Androsko had two singles for Maynard, which visits Lafferty Friday night.
Logan Hudson struck out eight and walked one in tossing a five-hitter.
With the win, Maynard strengthened its hold on third place. It is two games behind Lafferty. Weirton is fourth.
