WAHA Celebrating 50th Anniversary

WAHA, the Wheeling Amateur Hockey Association is celebrating their 50th anniversary (1964-2014).

The celebration is set for August 23 from 6-10 p.m., and will be held at the Wheeling Park, White Palace. Please RSVP by Aug. 16.

You are cordially invited to attend and take part in the festivities. Re-connect with your past hockey coaches and team mates. The evening will consist of a cocktail hour, dinner, music, and a short program. We look forward to seeing our past Presidents, Board Members, Commissioners, Coaches and Players along with their spouses. All are welcome and encouraged to attend. The cost of the affair is $50 per person, including bar.

UL to sell Passes and Reserved Seats

Union Local will be offering athletic passes and reserved seating for football at the high school office, starting Tuesday, Aug. 5 from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. Senior citizen passes are $25, student passes are $50 and adult passes are $85.

Barnesville Football Reserve Seats and Athletic Passes

Reserve Football Seating, Student Athletic Passes, and Senior Citizen Passes for the 2014 season will go on sale Monday, August 18, 2014 in the Barnesville Schools Central Office located in the elementary building.

Fans that held reserve seat tickets last football season will be given the first opportunity to purchase them again this season. Reserve seat tickets will be sold on a five-game plan only. Price for the five home games is $30.00. After August 29, reserve seats will be sold on a first come-first serve basis.

Student Athletic Passes are available for any student in grades K-12 attending the Barnesville Exempted Village School District. The Student Athletic Passes are good for any home athletic event. The cost of the student pass is $25.

Senior Citizen passes for the 2014 fall and 2014-2015 winter sports season will also go on sale Monday, Aug. 18. Fall Senior Citizen passes are $15.00 and winter/spring passes are $25.00. A single pass good for the fall/winter/spring seasons may be purchased at a cost of $40.00.

Presale tickets for home varsity football games will be sold at the following three locations: Barnesville High School Office, Bob’s Drive Thru, and the Pit Stop the week prior to each home game. Presale tickets are $4. All tickets at the game are $5.

Bridgeport Slates Mandatory OHSAA Meeting

Bridgeport will hold a mandatory OHSAA meeting for parents on Sunday at 3 pm in the cafetorium. The meeting is for parents of students participating in any fall sport including cheering that are entering grades 7-12.

Bellaire Volleyball Players Should Report Friday

Girls in grades 9-12 interested in playing volleyball need to be at mandatory practice beginning Aug. 1 from 9-12. Emergency medical forms and physical forms are required to participate. Any questions please call Kaye at 740-695-2089.

Shadyside Football Moms are hosting a Vendor Bingo on Sunday from 2-6 p.m. at the Shadyside American Legion. Cost is $10 which includes bingo and sandwich/salad/dessert/drink. The sixth annual Irish Youth Steak Fest will be held on Saturday, Aug. 23 at the Irish Youth Sports Complex. The gates will open at 5:30 p.m. and dinner will be served from 6-8 with live entertainment from 7-10. The dinner includes: steak, baked potato, salad, bread, dessert, water and pop. Purple Riders Boosters Club will hold its annual house-to-house membership canvas on Wednesday. It will begin at 5 p.m. The players will be accompanied by their coaches. This is one of the main fundraisers for the club. The cost is a $3 donation.

Harrison Central Slates Mandatory Fall Sports Meeting

Harrison Central will hold its Fall Player/Parent Meeting on Wednesday at 6 p.m. at the John W. Stephenson Center at the high school. This meeting is for any student in grades 7-12 who will be playing a sport this fall at Harrison Central Jr./Sr. High School. This is a required meeting by the OHSAA.

Buckeye Local Junior High Football Practices Slated

Buckeye Local Junior High football will begin on Thursday. Eighth graders are asked to report at 2:30-3:30 p.m. and seventh grade should report at 5-6:30 p.m. Players are asked to report to the east end of the high school and should wear shorts and football spikes.

Martins Ferry Selling Reserve Football Tickets

Martins Ferry is selling reserve tickets for its five home football games for the 2014 season on Monday, Aug. 4 and Tuesday, Aug. 5 from 5-7 p.m. at the stadium ticket office, for those who have purchased their tickets in the past. The cost is $35 for the five games. If there are any season tickets remaining, those purchasing them for the first time may do so on Monday, Aug. 11 from 5-7 p.m. at the stadium ticket office.

Student passes are $50 and will be accepted at any and all athletic events held in Shadyside for the entire school year.

Youth Fishing Event in St. C.

The St. Clairsville Department of Parks and Recreation will play host to its annual youth fishing tournament Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. for boys and girls ages 4 to 13 at the city reservoir. Cost is $5 per child/$10 for family (for residents) and $10 per child/$15 for family (non-residents). Trophies and poles will be awarded to winners in each age division.

Registrations will be accepted at the reservoir from 5-5:45 p.m. Wednesday.

PAV Seminar at Barnesville High School

The Barnesville High School Athletic Department, in conjunction with Tim Berger, will conduct a state-certified pupil activity validation seminar (sports medicine certification) before the fall season begins. The workshop will take place in the Barnesville High School multi-use room (Room 127) on Tuesday, July 29 at 5:30 p.m. The cost of the workshop is $25. All coaches will be certified with the Ohio State Department of Education for a three-year period. The workshop is not affiliated with any league or conference series.

Union Local Football Camp

St. John Hoop Camp Slated

The 25th annual St. John Central Basketball Camp will be held July 21-25 at the high school gym in Bellaire.

The camp will again be under the direction of Lady Irish head coach Bubba Kapral. He will be assisted by his high school staff as well as current and former Lady Irish hoopsters.

Youth Fishing Event in St. C.

The St. Clairsville Department of Parks and Recreation will play host to its annual youth fishing tournament Wednesday, July 30 from 6-8 p.m. for boys and girls ages 4 to 13 at the city reservoir. Cost is $5 per child/$10 for family (for residents) and $10 per child/$15 for family (non-residents). Trophies and poles will be awarded to winners in each age division. Football Officials Sought

The Ohio Valley Board of Football Officials is currently seeking new candidates to officiate high school football. The 2014 training class will be held at Generations on July 22 from 5-7:30 p.m. There will be a WVSSAC license fee and an OHSAA license fee. All attendees will be eligible to officiate at a lower level during the upcoming season.

The Ohio Valley Football Coaches Association is in the process of accepting applications for nominations for retired assistant football coaches with 25 years of service, with at least 15 of those in the OVAC. The recommendations, may be sent to either Reno Saccoccia, Dave Bruney or Mike Young. We would be inducting these coaches into the hall next winter. ImPACT Testing for Concussion Management

St. Clairsville’s ImPACT testing will take place on Tuesday, July 15 in the middle school computer lab. Football players in grades 9 and 11 will be tested from 9-10 a.m. Also included in this time slot will be any football player in grades 9-12 not tested last year.

Those prospective football players entering grade 7 this fall will test from 10-11 a.m. Testing from 11-12 p.m. will be boys’ and girls’ soccer in grades 9 and 11, and those not tested last year.

Grades 7, 9 and 11 volleyball players and cheerleaders from noon-1 p.m.

From 1-2 p.m. will be boys’ and girls’ basketball, wrestling, baseball and softball. The tests are free to the athletes and administered by Wheeling Hospital. Any questions, please call the athletic office at (740) 699-2248.

Shadyside Student and Senior Citizen Passes

The Shadyside Athletic Department will be selling senior citizen athletic passes as well as student athletic passes at the high school beginning Aug. 1. Passes can be purchased in the athletic office between hours of 8 am and noon , Monday through Friday. Senior athletic passes are $20 for Shadyside residents and $30 for non-Shadyside residents. Student passes are $50 and will be accepted at any and all athletic events held in Shadyside for the entire school year. Union Local Football Camp

Boys’ Basketball Camp at West Liberty

West Liberty University will host its annual summer Hilltopper Boys’ Basketball Camp from July 20-23 at the Academic, Sports and Recreation Complex (ASRC) located on West Liberty University’s main campus.

Under the direction of Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach Ben Howlett, the camp will focus on offensive development, shooting the basketball, and one-on-one offensive moves, emphasized on a daily basis and is open to all boys entering grades four through 12 in fall 2014. Each day will include the development of fundamentals and improving individual skills in the morning, team drills, competitions, and league games in the afternoon, and league play and recreational activities in the evening.

Each player will compete in 10 to 14 league games, including a tournament on the final day, creating a competitive atmosphere to test the skills learned during the camp.

Campers will be divided into three leagues and play approximately three games per day. Teams will be formed according to age and ability.

Cost for the camp is $250 per camper and a $50 deposit is required with application. The fee covers room, meals, instruction, T-shirt and camp expenses. Check in is between 1-3 p.m., Sunday, July 20. Departure is noon Wednesday, July 23. Arrangements can be made for early or late arrivals or departures.

PAV Seminar at Barnesville High School

The Barnesville High School Athletic Department, in conjunction with Tim Berger, will conduct a state-certified pupil activity validation seminar (sports medicine certification) before the fall season begins. The workshop will take place in the Barnesville High School multi-use room (Room 127) on Tuesday, July 29 at 5:30 p.m. The cost of the workshop is $25. All coaches will be certified with the Ohio State Department of Education for a three-year period. The workshop is not affiliated with any league or conference series.
