ODOT Construction in New Concord

To Barnesville football fans traveling to New Concord for tonight’s Barnesville vs. John Glenn varsity football game at Muskingum University, ODOT’s contractor, Double Z construction is scheduled to replace the deck on the bridge just south of Main Street in New Concord. No traffic, northbound or southbound will be permitted except for emergency vehicles. Commercial traffic will be directed to use the Champion exit 176 and Norwich exit 164. There are message boards on I-70 informing vehicles to use the Champion and Norwich exits due to construction.

Bellaire TD Club Selling Replica Hoodies

The Bellaire Touchdown Club will once again be selling the Bellaire Big Reds replica hoodie. Order forms may be picked up at Gulla’s or the first two home football games. The cost is $59, which is the same price as the past two years. Checks must accompany all orders. Orders will be taken till the Friday night of the Shadyside game, which is Sept. 9. Cornhole Tournament Slated for Sept. 13

A pair of Cornhole Tournaments, held in conjunction with the Sternwheel Festival, will be held on Saturday, Sept. 13 at Wheeling Heritage Port. The first tournament is sponsored by Directv. The first place team will receive a set of Directv cornhole boards. The second tournament, which is sponsored by Valerus Field Solution. To be in the second tournament, you must have taken part in the first one. The prizes are as follows: $250, $150 and $100 for the top three teams. The Martins Ferry Football Parents are hosting a Gun Bash fundraiser on Saturday, Sept. 6 at the Rec Center.

Doors open at 4 p.m., raffles begin at 5 p.m. and dinner will be served at 6. Tickets are $50 each and includes dinner, beverages and chance to win a prize raffled every 15 minutes. On-site NICS checks must be passed to receive guns. Winners do not need to be present.

The St. Clairsville Department of Parks and Recreation is accepting registrations for its youth flag football league for boys and girls in grades Kindergarten through 6th grade. The cost is $45 (resident) or $80 (family) and $50 (non-resident) and $90 (family). Registrations end Sept. 3 at 3 p.m. at the recreation center.

All games will be played on Saturdays, Sundays or Mondays, beginning Saturday, Sept. 20 and will conclude the end of October. Rain dates will be determined accordingly with times to be announced. There will be no refunds given for any reason(s). Some week-day games may be played depending on the amount of teams and rain dates.

Anyone interested in coaching, please contact the recreation center. For the protection of our children, all volunteer coaches will have background checks done before coaching. Social security numbers must be provided so that a background check can be run. Background check must be approved in order to coach, prior to the first practice. Absolutely no more than two coaches per team. A coaches only meeting will be held before play starts.

Steubenville Girls Basketball Fall League 2014

The Steubenville Girls’ basketball Fall League will be held at Steubenville High School’s Crimson Center & Stern Gym on Sundays from Sept. 14 through Oct. 19. There will be two divisions: Middle School (grades 5-8) and High School (grades 9-12).

Only two players from the same school will be allowed on the same team (OHSAA rules). The goal is to have each girl play in two games every Sunday. Teams may change on a weekly basis.

Awesome Autism 5K Run/Walk

The sixth annual Awesome Autism 5K Run/Walk will be held Saturday at 8:30 a.m. at the Bellaire High School. Pre-registration is $20 and $25 on race day. Registration is from 7-8:15 p.m. The Awesome Autism 5K is part of the Ohio Valley Grand Prix Series. Sweatshirts and sizes are guaranteed to the first 250 registered. There will be post-race pasta, fruit, cookies and door prizes. As an added feature the Runner’s Connection in Bellaire will pay your entry fee if you purchase any regular priced running shoe up until Saturday. Awards in age groups for both run and walk. All proceeds benefit PACE (Parents for Autism Community Education) and all monies stay local to help in educating those who want to learn about autism. St. C. Area Soccer Association Extends Registration

Any Belmont County or Ohio Valley youth with birthdays between 8/1/2000 and 7/31/10 can sign up at the recreation center in St. Clairsville until today without late fee. Registrations after today will be accepted on an as needed basis. Players in the eighth grade who are 15 and not yet in High School are permitted to play. Forms are available at the St. Clairsville Recreation Department and Swan’s and Jenkins Sports stores, St Mary’s and East Richland Schools and other area schools. Travel Teams will be formed with the U-10 to U-14 age groups. Teams will play other recreation teams in the Ohio Valley with the older teams playing within the region. WAHA Celebrating 50th Anniversary

WAHA, the Wheeling Amateur Hockey Association is celebrating its 50th anniversary (1964-2014).

The celebration is set for Saturday from 6-10 p.m., and will be held at the Wheeling Park, White Palace.

You are cordially invited to attend and take part in the festivities. Re-connect with your past hockey coaches and team mates. The evening will consist of a cocktail hour, dinner, music, and a short program. Look forward to seeing our past presidents, board members, commissioners, coaches and players along with their spouses.

The sixth annual Irish Youth Steak Fest will be held on Saturday at the Irish Youth Sports Complex. Martins Ferry vs Shadyside Football Jamboree on Thursday, starting at 530-6:35 with the 7th\8th grade teams. The varsity teams square off at 7:15, with the reserves set to go at 8.

Both bands will also perform.

The cost is $5 – no passes of any kind will be accepted.

OUE Volleyball Holding Celebrity Server

The Ohio University Eastern volleyball team will be at Undo’s on Tuesday from 5-9 p.m. for celebrity server night and encourages the public to come out and meet the team. Bellaire High Meet the Teams

Come celebrate the start of the 2013-14 school year with a pep rally to show support and meet the golf, cross country, volleyball and football teams, along with the cheerleaders and band members on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Nelson Field. Refreshments will be available, along with booths selling season tickets and Big Reds spirit items. Prizes will be given away throughout the night. Detling Memorial 5K Slated

The 4th Annual Brad Detling Memorial Ridge Runner Classic (BDMRRC) 5K Walk/Run, sponsored by Wayne Homes, South Central Power Company, and William Knox, CPA, will be held on Saturday at Barnesville High School.

The race begins at Barnesville High School at 8:30 a.m. The route includes Shamrock Drive and Grange Hall Road and ends at Barnesville Middle School. In addition to the 5K run, The BDMRRC is unique in that it features two classifications of walkers, competitive and non-competitive. The St. Clairsville Department of Parks and Recreation is accepting registrations for its youth flag football league for boys and girls in grades Kindergarten through 6th grade. The cost is $45 (resident) or $80 (family) and $50 (non-resident) and $90 (family). Registrations end Sept. 3 at 3 p.m. at the recreation center.

All games will be played on saturdays, Sundays or Mondays, beginning Saturday, Sept. 20 and will conclude the end of October. Rain dates will be determined accordingly with times to be announced. Steubenville Girls Basketball Fall League 2014

The Steubenville Girls’ basketball Fall League will be held at Steubenville High School’s Crimson Center & Stern Gym on Sundays from Sept. 14 through Oct. 19. There will be two divisions: Middle School (grades 5-8) and High School (grades 9-12).

Only two players from the same school will be allowed on the same team (OHSAA rules). The goal is to have each girl play in two games every Sunday. Teams may change on a weekly basis.

Awesome Autism 5K Run/Walk

The sixth annual Awesome Autism 5K Run/Walk will be held Saturday, Aug. 30 at 8:30 a.m. at the Bellaire High School. Pre- registration is $20 and $25 on race day. Registration is from 7-8:15 p.m. The Awesome Autism 5K is part of the Ohio Valley Grand Prix Series. Sweatshirts and sizes are guaranteed to the first 250 registered. There will be post-race pasta, fruit, cookies and door prizes. WAHA, the Wheeling Amateur Hockey Association is celebrating its 50th anniversary (1964-2014).

Reserve Football Seating, Student Athletic Passes, and Senior Citizen Passes for the 2014 season will go on sale Monday, Aug. 18 in the Barnesville Schools Central Office located in the elementary building.

Fans that held reserve seat tickets last football season will be given the first opportunity to purchase them again this season. Reserve seat tickets will be sold on a five-game plan only. Price for the five home games is $30. After Aug. 29, reserve seats will be sold on a first come-first serve basis.

Barton Braves Fundraiser

The Barton Braves Ohio Valley Baseball League team will have a chicken BBQ on Saturday to benefit the team. The St. Clairsville Area Soccer Association is now underway. Any registration after today will be charged a $5 late fee.

2015 Valley T’Boltz Travel Baseball Tryouts

Experienced and established local Travel Baseball team is looking for players for 9U, 10U, 11U, 12U and 13U teams for the 2015 season. Tryouts will be held Saturday in Morristown at the Lynn Hunkler Complex. The Ohio Valley Football Coaches Association is in the process of accepting applications for nominations for retired assistant football coaches with 25 years of service, with at least 15 of those in the OVAC. The recommendations, may be sent to either Reno Saccoccia, Dave Bruney or Mike Young. We would be inducting these coaches into the hall next winter. Purple Rider Boosters Planning Bus to Wickliffe

The Purple Riders Booster Club is sponsoring a fan bus to Wickliffe for the Purple Riders’ second football game of the season. The cost is $45 for adults and $40 for students (14 and under). The cost includes transportation, game ticket and a stop for dinner. The game is scheduled for Friday, Sept. 5 at 7:30 p.m. The bus will leave at 2 p.m. from the Dutch Henry on Hanover Street. Saints Club Canvass Drive Slated

The Saints Club will hold its annual community canvass drive on Wednesday, Aug. 13 from 5:30-7 p.m. The canvass is in lieu of all tag days and benefits all athletic programs at St. Clairsville High School. All participants (Grades 9-12) will be fed at 5 p.m. at the press box. Following the Canvass Drive, a “Meet the Teams” night will take place at Red Devil Stadium at 7:30 and include all Fall sports in grades 7-12 along with the marching band.

Bellaire Football Moms Steak Fry Planned

The Bellaire Football Moms annual steak fry will be held on Friday, Aug. 22 at the Bellaire Eagles from 5-9 p.m. The cost is $20 per person and it includes steak, baked potato, salad, bread and dessert. Please bring your own place settings and drinks will be available for purchase through the Bellaire Eagles. There will be a 50-50 raffle and various other raffles.

Shadyside Football Moms Steak Fry set for Saturday

Shadyside Football Moms are having a Steak Fry on Saturday from 6-10 p.m. at the Mead Township Park. Cost is $20 which includes steak/potato/salad/dessert and drink. The event is BYOB. St. C. Offering Fall Sports Passes

The St. Clairsville Athletic Department is announcing that fall sports passes are available in the High School office beginning Monday. Passes can be purchased in the principal’s office during the week from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., as well as in the athletic office at various times and by appointment by calling 699-2248. The following passes and fees are available: senior citizen ($20), student ($35; families w/ 3 or more is $30 each), adult ($75). These include all home events in grades 7-12 (excluding tournaments) for the 2014-15 school year. Additionally, reserved football seats are available for $7 by calling the athletic office.

Buckeye Local Slates Mandatory OHSAA Meeting

The mandatory OHSAA Preseason Sportsmanship-Eligibility meeting for fall sports will be held on Tuesday at 5 p.m. in the BLHS theater.

The meeting is mandatory for all Buckeye Local fall sport participants in grades 7-12.

St. C. Soccer Registration Underway

The St. Clairsville Area Soccer Association is now underway. Any registration after Monday will be charged a $5 late fee.

Any Belmont County or Ohio Valley youth with birth days between 8/1/2000 and 7/31/10 can sign up at the Recreation Center in St. Clairsville until Monday without late fee. Registrations after Monday will be accepted on an as needed basis. Players in the eighth grade who are 15 and not yet in high school are permitted to play. Forms are available at the St. Clairsville Recreation Department and Swans and Jenkins Sports stores, St Mary’s and East Richland Schools and other area schools. Travel Teams will be formed with the U-10 to U-14 age groups. Teams will play other recreation teams in the Ohio Valley with the older teams playing within the region. Awesome Autism 5K Run/Walk

The sixth annual Awesome Autism 5K Run/Walk will be held Saturday, Aug. 30 at 8:30 a.m. at the Bellaire High School. Pre- registration is $20 and $25 on race day. Registration is from 7-8:15 p.m. The Awesome Autism 5K is part of the Ohio Valley Grand Prix Series. Sweatshirts and sizes are guaranteed to the first 250 registered. There will be post-race pasta, fruit, cookies and door prizes. 2015 Valley T’Boltz Travel Baseball Tryouts

Experienced and established local Travel Baseball team is looking for players for 9U, 10U, 11U, 12U and 13U teams for the 2015 season. Tryouts will be held Saturday in Morristown at the Lynn Hunkler Complex. Ferry Slates Flag Football Signups

The Martins Ferry Park District will have flag football signups for grades 1-6, through Sept. 2 from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. at the Martins Ferry Recreation Center.

Barnesville Booster Membership Drive

The Barnesville high school and junior high school football teams will be canvassing the community Monday, starting at approximately 6 p.m. in their game jerseys selling Booster Club membership cards. Ferry Selling Reserve Tickets

Martins Ferry is selling reserve tickets for its five home football games for the 2014 season today and Tuesday from 5-7 p.m. at the stadium ticket office, for those who have purchased their tickets in the past. The cost is $35 for the five games. If there are any season tickets remaining, those purchasing them for the first time may do so on Monday, Aug. 11 from 5-7 p.m. at the stadium ticket office.

Brilliant Announces Softball Game

All former players and coaches for the Brilliant Girls Softball Program will be playing in the inaugural ‘Former Brilliant Girls Softball Game’ on Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Danny Duda Memorial Field in the Rich Lewis Memorial Park in Brilliant. All former Tigers, Reds, Pirates & Cubs, along with former coaching staff, will be in attendance and participating. Admissions to the games are free. In the inaugural event, ladies from Maine, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Florida and Ohio will be participating. Barnesville Football Reserve Seats and Athletic Passes

Reserve Football Seating, Student Athletic Passes, and Senior Citizen Passes for the 2014 season will go on sale Monday, Aug. 18 in the Barnesville Schools Central Office located in the elementary building.

Fans that held reserve seat tickets last football season will be given the first opportunity to purchase them again this season. Reserve seat tickets will be sold on a five-game plan only. Price for the five home games is $30. After Aug. 29, reserve seats will be sold on a first come-first serve basis.

Student Athletic Passes are available for any student in grades K-12 attending the Barnesville Exempted Village School District. The Student Athletic Passes are good for any home athletic event. The cost of the student pass is $25.

Senior Citizen passes for the 2014 fall and 2014-2015 winter sports season will also go on sale Monday, Aug. 18. Fall Senior Citizen passes are $15 and winter/spring passes are $25. A single pass good for the fall/winter/spring seasons may be purchased at a cost of $40.

Presale tickets for home varsity football games will be sold at the following three locations: Barnesville High School Office, Bob’s Drive Thru, and the Pit Stop the week prior to each home game. Presale tickets are $4. All tickets at the game are $5.

St. Clairsville Jr. High Football

All St. Clairsville 7th and 8th grade athletes wishing to play football, practice will begin Wednesday from 6-7:30 p.m. Things to bring: red and gray shirt and shorts, football cleats, and water jug. Softball Tourney Planned

The first annual Dave Yocum Memorial softball tournament will be held Aug. 9-10 at the Powhatan Stadium field. Entry fee is $125 with $400 awarded for first place and $250 for runnerup. The two-day event will have music, food, pony rides, flea market and all vendors welcome.

Red Devil Club Steak Fry Scheduled

The Red Devil Club Steak Fry will be Saturday, Aug. 9 from 6 until midnight at the Bob Gary Pavilion in Warnock. The dinner includes steak, baked potato, salad, dessert and drink (water, pop and beer provided). Bring your own place settings. A Chinese auction will also be available. Tickets are $20 per person.

Road Runners Fastpitch Softball Tryouts Slated

Road Runner Girls Fastpitch Travel Softball Tryouts for Summer 2015 will be held on Saturday, Aug. 9 in Wheeling at the J.B. Chambers Softball Complex. Tryouts will be held for 8U, 10U, 12U, & 14U from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. Pitchers and catchers remain until 1:30. The 16U and 18U tryouts will run from 2-5 p.m. Pitchers and catchers remain until 5:30.

Shadyside Student and Senior Citizen Passes

The Shadyside Athletic Department will be selling senior citizen athletic passes as well as student athletic passes at the high school beginning Friday. Passes can be purchased in the athletic office between hours of 8 a.m. and noon, Monday through Friday. Senior athletic passes are $20 for Shadyside residents and $30 for non-Shadyside residents. Student passes are $50 and will be accepted at any and all athletic events held in Shadyside for the entire school year. OVFCA Seeking Nominations

The Ohio Valley Football Coaches Association is in the process of accepting applications for nominations for retired assistant football coaches with 25 years of service, with at least 15 of those in the OVAC. The recommendations, may be sent to either Reno Saccoccia, Dave Bruney or Mike Young. We would be inducting these coaches into the hall next winter.
