WINTERSVILLE – The St. Clairsville boys soccer team traveled to Jefferson County Thursday and came away with a hard-fought 4-2 victory over homestanding Indian Creek.
Things got off to a good start for the Redskins as Max Lewis knocked in a loose ball in from the front of the goal in the 5th minute of play to give the hosts an early advantage that they carried through the first half. Both teams had chances but could not find the back of the net.
Fifteen minutes into the second half, the Red Devils’ Merrik Malin found teammate Zach Oliver in the corner of the 18-yard box and Oliver drove home on a one-timer to tie the score.
It wasn’t long before Oliver returned the favor finding Malin on a similar pass that he punched into the back of the net to put the visitors up for good. Three minutes later, Oliver scored his second goal of the night off a perfectly placed cross from Kyle Hendershot.
Jordan Vincent finished the scoring for St. Clairsville with a laser from outside the box to build a three-goal advantage.
Lewis scored his second goal with less than a minute remaining.
St. Clairsville (2-0) plays at John Marshall on Monday.
