Harrison qualifies to D-II golf district

WEST LAFAYETTE — The path to a state golf championship was laid out for area Division II schools Monday at sun-splashed and sizzling River Greens Golf Course.

Just one area team and two individuals survived the test on the challenging par 72 layout to earn a spot to compete on Oct. 4 at the Division II district tournament at Eagle Sticks in Zanesville.

Harrison Central, which won the Buckeye 8 championship and finished second in the OVAC earlier this month, extended its season by virtue of a sixth-place finish. The Huskies checked in with a score of 329, which was tied for sixth and 17 shots back of champion Coshocton.

The Huskies were led by senior standout Clint Heavilin. He shot a round of 76. He was joined in the team scoring by Cameron McIntosh (84), Cruz Capers (84) and Samuel Santille (85).

The two area individuals to punch their ticket to next week’s 18-hole tournament are the St. Clairsville duo of Jacob Jeffries and Brendan Vucelich. The two Red Devils’ leaders shot 79 and 81 to earn the right to compete again.
