Area swimmers shine at Dover Invitational

DOVER — St. Clairsville’s Casadie DiBetta and Maggie Marody both won two individual events while Martins Ferry’s Jarrett Bolinger did the same at the Dover Invitational.

DiBetta won the 100 breaststroke (1:07.57) in record fashion while also securing gold in the 200 IM (2:18.21). DiBetta was also on the record-setting 200 medley relay team with Olivia Moyer, Kylie McKeegan and Marody as they swam to a time of 1:55.25.

Marody claimed the titles in 500 freestyle (5:25.88) and 200 freestyle (2:04.01) while also being on the winning 400 freestyle relay team of McKeegan, Moyer and Brenna Planey (3:55.61).

Dover won both the boys and girls title.

Bolinger won the 100 breaststroke (1:05.11) and 100 freestyle (51.37).


Monroe Central 72, Frontier 26

WOODSFIELD — Five Monroe Central players scored in double figures as it defeated Frontier. Sydney Yoho bucketed a team-high 14 points while Haylynn Hiles contributed with 13. Kalista Friday was solid for the Seminoles as she secured 12 points and Amy Bettinger secured 11. Rounding out the double-figure scorers was Kristen Friday as she had 10 points.

Madonna 68, St. John 29

WEIRTON — Andrea Alimario tallied 15 points while Gia Riccadonna posted 12 as Madonna defeated St. John, Michaela Battista was solid for the Blue Dons as she scored 11.

Kaylin Nixon led the way for the Irish with 15 points.
