St. C. boys and girls swimmers finish second in sectional

STEUBENVILLE — St. Clairsville finished second in the both the boys and girls team standings at the Division I/II Eastern District sectional swim meet held at Steubenville High School Saturday.

The Red Devils will take a strong and impressive delegation to Ohio State University’s McCorkle Aquatic Pavillion Thursday for the district meet.

The Red Devils’ girls team claimed five sectional titles with four of those coming from the girls’ team.

St. C. got the meet started with a victory in the 200 medley relay. The team of Olivia Moyer, Casadie DiBetta, Kylie McKeegan and Brenna Planey swam to the title.

DiBetta — a talented freshman — won two titles. She won the 200 individual medley and the 100 breaststroke. Marody — a returning state qualifier — won the 500 freestyle and Olivia Moyer was the champion of the 100 fly.

McKeegan was second in the 50 free and Planey was second in the 500 free.

The Red Devils’ girls were also second in the 200 and 400 free relays.

Ethan Banks was the champion in the 500 freestyle and finished second in the 200 individual medley. Nathan Yost was second in the 100 backstroke.

Marody was also second in the 200 freestyle.

Martins Ferry didn’t produce an individual winner, but the Purple Riders will still send a strong collection to the district.

Kayla Fogle was second in the 200 individual medley, while Jarrett Bolinger was second in both the 100 freestyle and 100 breaststroke.
