Five area players earn all-Ohio acclaim
FIVE AREA players received the distinction of being called all-Ohioans Tuesday afternoon.
The Ohio Prep Sports Writer’s Association named the all-state teams for Divisions III and IV with Divisions I and II slated to be announced today.
In Division III, Buckeye Local’s Emily Holzopfel and Bellaire’s Katrina Davis were recognized.
Holzopfel, who earned all-state last season, finished her prep career with 2,007 points and eclipsed the barrier in her final prep game.
She averaged 24 points a game for the Panthers.
Davis did a little bit of everything for the Lady Reds in helping to lead them to the OVAC title and a spot in the district title game. She averaged 16.2 points, more than eight rebounds and was also one of the team leaders in steals.
In Division IV, River’s Lauren Flannery, who was named the Eastern District’s Division IV Player of the Year, earned a spot on the first team, while St. John Central’s Kaylin Nixon and Shadyside’s Baylee Wach earned second and third team nods, respectively.
Flannery was a stat-sheet stuffer for the Pilots, who won the OVAC Class 2A title and played in the district tournament. She averaged 22 points a game to go along with five assists and five rebounds.
Nixon, who earned third-team all-Ohio last winter, was the unquestioned leader of the Lady Irish.
She saw a myriad of junk defenses and still found a way to score 20.9 points a game and collect 12 rebounds.
Wach has been one of the leaders for the Lady Tigers, who will play in the Division IV state semifinals on Friday.
Just a sophomore, Wach is the Tigers leading scorer at 16 points a game. She also averages six rebounds and 2.3 assists a contest.
