Monroe, SJC softball post victories
SARAHSVILLE — Three Monroe Central players combined for 15 runs batted in as the Seminoles kept Shenandoah winless with a 19-4 drubbing of the host Zeps Thursday in softball action.
Kaitlyn Matz, Shaylei Giesey and Alle Zwick all drove in five runs apiece. Matz slugged a double and two-run homer to highlight an 8-run uprising in the first inning, which also included a 3-run blast off Zwick’s bat.
Matz finished a triple shy of the cycle while Giesey had three singles and a double. Zwick added a two-run single. Kirsten Friday added a pair of singles and 3-run homer.
Winning pitcher Liz Roderick struck out six and doubled herself.
Monroe Central (8-6) travels to Sardis today to meet River.
St. John Central 6, Wellsville 1
AT BELLAIRE, Kyla Kull hit a two-run homer and scattered three hits as the Irish (7-4) continued their strong mid-season push by defeating the visiting Tigers on Amanda’s Field.
Kaylin Nixon singled thrice and Kasi Gillespie doubled home a run. Jayden Lowe, Danielle Yaegel and Donnie Ruza singled in runs.
St. John Central hosts Barnesville Saturday in an 11 a.m. doubleheader.
Shenandoah 4, Monroe Central 3
AT SARAHSVILLE, the Zeps withstood a late rally by the Seminoles in posting the hard-earned win.
Collin Kroll, Austin Sloan and Talin Babcock all singled twice and drove in runs for Monroe Central. Wade Stoehr had a run-scoring base hit.
Bellaire 12, Union Local 8
MORRISTOWN — Cole Porter supplied three singles, one double and two RBI as Bellaire defeated Union Local.
Bobby Roth and Cole Runyan put down two singles for the Big Reds.
Four Jets had two singles in Kolby Smolira, Cody Morrison, Luke Merritt and Hunter McCort. Smolira plated two runs while Merrit had one RBI.
