Shadyside finishes off sweep of Ferry

SHADYSIDE — Shadyside completed its sweep of Martins Ferry in baseball action Saturday with a come-from-behind, 6-5, decision in the second game of a doubleheader on Fleming Field.

Collin Holmes, who picked up the win in relief of Bryce Amos, rapped two singles and drove in a run. Kelly Hendershot also singled two times, while Mason VanNest and Nate Schnegg singled home runs. Korey Beckett added an RBI and Amos doubled.

Chase Goff drove in two runs for the Purple Riders with a single and double. Drake Dobson and Dasyn Hores evenly divided four singles.

AT TORONTO — The Jets went to extra innings and scored two runs in the eighth in earning a victory against the Red Knights.

Dakota Hess drove in two runs. Ayden Smirola had a double, triple and a RBI. Hunter McCort (two singles, RBI) and Cody Morrison (three singles) also helped lead UL.

Nate Karaffa hit a solo homer for the Red Knights. Nick Chetock hit three singles with a RBI.

AT ST. CLAIRSVILLE — The Red Devils were dominant in a sweep of the Panthers, outscoring them 40-1 and outhitting them 42-7 during a doubleheader sweep.

Jenna Jaskowiak had a day, combining for four singles, a double and four RBI. Alexis Hines added two singles, two doubles and five RBI, while Bree Bennington contributed four singles, a double and four RBI for the Red Devils.

Kodie Richardson knocked in the lone Panthers (2-10) run of the day with a RBI single.

AT MARTINS FERRY — Weir is back over the .500 mark after a doubleheader sweep at Martins Ferry.

The Purple Riders were limited to three singles in the opener.

In the nightcap, Alea Funkhouser singled twice. Abby Bumbico doubled and Sidne Sidon knocked in a run.

St. John Central 5, Barnesville 2

AT BELLAIRE, the Irish earned a split with the Shamrocks on Amanda’s Field.

Kyla Kull fanned eight and scattered seven hits in earning the win inside the circle.

Shaylynn Horvath knocked in two runs with a single and double. Kayla Bryan and Danielle Yaegel both singled and doubled.

Bailey Leach singled twice and drove in a run for the Shamrocks.
