UL’s Loase to vault at Marietta

MORRISTOWN — Allison Loase admits she was “a little disappointed” with how her senior season of track and field ended.

The Union Local pole vaulter failed to qualify for the Division II state meet, settling for an eighth place finish in the regional.

The memory of that finish is something that Loase plans to use to motivate her as she begins the next chapter of her vaulting career.

Loase has decided to continue both her academic and track careers at Marietta College.

“I met most of my personal goals throughout high school, but I came up a little short this year,” Loase said. “I wish I could have the regional meet back because I know I am capable of jumping better than I did that day.”

Loase cleared 10-4 that afternoon at Muskingum University, but she had cleared 11-1 earlier in the season and been flirting with that mark much of the campaign.

Still, however, Loase has identified areas in which she must improve to continue to climb in height.

“I need to improve my technique at the end of the vault,” Loase said. “I have to get inverted, turn quicker and get off the top of the pole.”

As a junior, Loase qualified for the Division II state meet and was the district champion. She was the OVAC champion twice her career, winning 4A as a sophomore and 3A this past season. She also won the Buckeye 8 as a sophomore.

Loase is very familiar with the Marietta track facility. She’s been on the campus many times to vault during the summer months.

“I really like the coaches and campus and the fact that it’s a small school not too far away from home,” Loase said.

Away from track, Loase was a multi-year letter winner in basketball.

On top of her athletic exploits, Loase was very active during her high school years. She was a member of the National Honor Society, Student Council, Belmont County Schools Staying Clean Club, Fellowship of Christian Students, Art Club, Spanish Club, Pep Club, Secret Sisters, Sixth Grade Camp Counselor, Prom Court, earned for academic letters. On top of all that, she as the 2018 Homecoming Queen.

Allison, who is undecided about her major, is the daughter of Brian and Jill Loase.
