St. Clairsville swims to title at Marshall Co. Invitational

MOUNDSVILLE — With the temperatures reaching the 90s, it was a perfect day to take a trip to the pool. For many area swimmers, they were able to cool off a bit and also put in some hard work at the Marshall County Invitational at Four Seasons Pool.

A trio of St. Clairsville athletes put together strong performances as Kylie McKeegan, Caleb McKeegan and Evan Yost all scored 100 points to help the St. Clairsville Summer Swim team secure the combined team title along with the boys’ title. All three won their age group for high point winners.

St. Clairsville had a total of 2,278 points with the Martins Ferry Aquatic Club just on its tail (1,841.50), who finished in second.

The St. Clairsville boys had a total of 907 points.

Martins Ferry won the overall girls’ title with 954.5 points.

Marshall County rounded out the top three by placing third in the girls (796.5), boys (291) and combined (1,393.50) team scores.

Caleb McKeegan also won five individual events starting with the boys 13-14 50 freestyle (27.63), 200 freestyle (2:12.95), 100 backstroke (1:09.15), 50 butterfly (28.63) and 100 butterfly (1:07.64).

Yost ran away in his age group by capturing the boys 11-12 50 freestyle (29.23), 100 freestyle (1:04.79), 50 backstroke (33.93), 100 backstroke (1:12.95) and 50 butterfly (32.11).

Kylie McKeegan claimed five individual titles including the girls 15-18 freestyle (26.31), 50 backstroke (31.49), 100 backstroke (1:08.67), 50 butterfly (29.02) and 100 butterfly (1:06.10).

A pair of Martins Ferry Aquatic Club members got there too in Anna Norman (girls 13-14) and Brennan Wack (boys 10-11). Norman paced the girls to an overall title with individual victories in the 50 freestyle (28.44), 200 freestyle (2:23.73), 50 backstroke (33.61) and 50 butterfly (30.78).

Wack was the first one to hit the wall in the 25 freestyle (15.89), 25 backstroke (21.29), 25 breaststroke (26.39), 25 butterfly (20.13) and 50 freestyle (37.13) for Martins Ferry.

Nathan Yost was also vital in St. Clairsville’s victory. He tied Marshall County’s Alex Postle for the high point award with 94 in the 15-18 age group.

Nathan Yost had the fastest time in the 50 backstroke (29.85), 100 backstroke (1:04.80) and 50 butterfly (27.15). Postle boasted victories in the 50 freestyle (25.18), 100 freestyle (57.15) and 50 breaststroke (32.92).

For the boys, St. Clairsville’s Joshua Perry (7-8) and Martins Ferry’s Logan Giffin (6 and under) were the other high point winners.

Peyson Stupak of St. Clairsville won the girls 8 and under 25 freestyle (18.42), 25 breaststroke (25.03) and 25 backstroke (26.09). Teammate Bryce Lagon (8 and under) won the 25 backstroke (24.96) and 25 breaststroke (30.86).
