OFF THE TEE: Sons of Italy Golf Scramble winners crowned last week
The annual Sons of Italy Golf Scramble was held on June 10 at Crispin Center at Oglebay Park.
The team of Dwayne Pielech, John Pielech, Jeff Pielech and Gary Schrickle captured the tournament title. The team of Roger Brown, Brian Herron, Don Walker and Kevin Lahna was second, while Phil Pata, Phil Pata II, Joe Gaudio and Jim Glasser finished third.

BELMONT HILLS RESULTS
The Belmont 2-man event was held last weekend at Belmont Hills Country Club.
The event got under way Saturday and the team of Chuck Baker and Larry Blake captured the First Flight crown with a score of 12.5. Vic Wood and Gary Young were second with an 11.5.
In the second flight, The Tim Conway and John Timko posted a 15, while Rennie Minor and Andy Yanok were second.
On Sunday, the duo of Chuck Baker and Larry Blake prevailed with a score of 15. Dave Diosi and Jeff Thrash finished second with 11.5.
In the second flight, Jack Carpenter and Bill Sokolowski prevailed with a score of 13.5. Dave Johnson and Bill Sokolowski had a 13 to finish in second.
Overall, Conway and Timko prevailed, while Baker and Blake were second. Carpenter and Sokolowski shared overall third with Minor and Yanok.
WHEELING PARK GOLF CLUB
The Richard Morehead 3-man Florida Scramble was held on June 9. The trio of Ennis, Green and Mercer prevailed in the medal division with a score of 60. Yuhase, Geyer and Pinkerton were second with a 64.
In the handicap portion of the event, the trio of Crow, Beck and Druschel posted a 52 to prevail, while Traylor, Schwertfeger and Mitchell posted a 53.
On June 5, the Wheeling Spring Service event was held. Ennis prevailed with a 34 after a tie-breaker process against Bruce Beck. George Melnik was third with a round of 36.
Mike DeSantis won the handicap division with a score of 31. Bernie Schultz was second with a 33.
ROBBINS RIDGE GOLF LEAGUE
Gary Mayberry recorded the closest to the pin prize and Fred McGee had the closest to the pin on the second shot in the Senecaville Senior League last week. The low gross of the week when to Stavroff/Mayberry with a round of 35. That pair also posted the low net round as well.
TRAVIS NELSON, of Wheeling, recorded an ace at the Par 3, fifth at Oglebay Park’s Crispin Center on June 9. Nelson used a sand wedge for the 89-yard shot, which was witnessed by Brad Archer.
JOE McGLUMPHY of Wheeling recorded an ace on the 182-yard 13th hole at Oglebay’s Crispin Center on June 5. He used a 6-iron for his feat, which was witnessed by Chuck Smith.
SCOTT SMITH of Wheeling recorded an ace at Becwood Hills Golf Course on June 2. Smith aced the 150-yard, 14th hole. His shot was witnessed by Don and Dan Botizan.
The Holy Name Society at St. Joseph’s Church in Tiltonsville is sponsoring its 31st annual scramble on Saturday, Aug. 17 at Fairway River Links in Rayland. The cost is $50 per man and the event will begin with a shotgun start at 7 a.m. The cost includes: golf, cart, food and refreshments. Prizes will be awarded along with several contests. THE LARRY LOEW Hilltopper Golf Scramble, which benefits the West Liberty football program, is set for Monday, June 24 at the Arnold Palmer Golf Course at Oglebay Park. The event will begin with a 1 p.m. shotgun start. Registration begins at 11 a..m. Along with the golf and lunch players will receive a special gift, dinner at the conclusion and several special contests will take place during the event.
The Amanda Rosepapa Memorial Benefit golf scramble, sponsored by the Glencoe American Legion Post 632, will be held on Saturday, Aug. 10 at Horseshoe Bend Golf Course in Armstrong Mills. The event will begin with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. and the entry fee is $200 per team. The price includes golf, cart, beverages, lunch and a steak fry after the round. The Bellaire Touchdown Club will be sponsoring its annual golf outing on June 29 at the Fairway River Links. The cost of the scramble is $60 per person or $240 per four man team. The cost includes carts, fees, lunch and beverages during the scramble and a dinner of chicken or ribs after wards. THE THIRD annual Tom Donahue Memorial Classic Golf Scramble will be held on Saturday, July 13 at Horseshoe Bend Golf Course. The entry fee is $50 per person or $200 per team. The cost includes green fees, food, refreshments, prizes and door prizes. The event will begin with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. and the field is limited to 72 golfers.
