Kalkreuth Amateur tee times announced

The Kalkreuth Amateur Golf Tournament will be held this weekend at Oglebay’s Crispin Course.

The event is the second of the Ohio Valley Golf Association tour schedule.

Kalkreuth is in its eighth year of serving as the title sponsor of the event, which started in 1945 as the Bernhardt’s. The tournament has drawn a full field of competitors, who will tee off as early as 6:30 Saturday morning.

WHEELING PARK GOLF CLUB

The club held two events last week.

The first event was held last Wednesday and it was the Bethany’s Bouquets tournament.

Mike Brickner captured the medal division crown with a round of 34. He was followed by Jim Ennis, Chris Bommer and Art Lightner, all of whom posted rounds of 36. Roger Kupfer and Dick Moore finished tied for fifth with a score of 38.

Former Martins Ferry golf coach Joe Kosar captured the crown in the handicap scoring with a total of 31.

He was two shots lower than Robbie Evans. Evans and Bernie Schultz went second and third, respectively with 33s.

Last Sunday, the Brickner Flooring event was held.

Brickner captured his second title of the week when he posted a round of 68 in the 18-hole event. He was two shots clear of Kupfer. Bill Caldwell was third with a 71. Also finishing with rounds of 71 to finish fourth and fifth, respectively, were Bob Green and Gary Mercer.

Ted Koski shot a 59 to captured the handicap scoring portion of the event. Bob Hicks was second with a 62 and Jim Ennis was third with a 65.

WHEELING CC

The Wheeling Country Club’s Member-Member tournament wrapped up last weekend.

Scott Seabright and Jared Jordan captured the championship by defeating fifth-seeded team of Archer and Carrigan, 2 and 1. Seabright and Jordan were the 14th seeds in the event.

The winning team knocked out 10th seeded duo of Thomas and Nelson, 4 and 2, in the semifinals.

SALT FORK JUNIOR

TOURNAMENT

The annual Salt Fork Junior Tournament will be held on Monday, July 7 at Salt Fork State Park in Cambridge.

The entry fee is $30 for non Salt Fork members and $20 for members. The event will begin with a shotgun start at 9:30 a.m. There will be three divisions (17-18, 15-16 and 13-14) for boys and two divisions (16-18 and 13-15) for girls. The top three boys and top two girls finishers will receive awards.

The deadline to enter the tournament is Wednesday, July 2.

UPCOMING SCRAMBLES

The second annual Oil and Gas Outing will be held at Belmont Hills Country Club on Monday, June 30.

The event is held to “show appreciation and awareness to the oil and gas industry.”

The event will begin with a 10 a.m. shotgun start and registration gets under way at 8 a.m. The entry fee is $675 a team, which includes golf, lunch, dinner, beverages on the course, prizes, special events and an open bar at the completion of play.

The event will benefit the Harmony House Children’s Advocacy Center, which works to strengthen the community’s response to child abuse.

The golf portion of the event will also feature skins, mulligans and raffles. Sponsorships are also available for the event.

The Wheeling Jesuit Wrestling Program enjoyed a solid first season of competition this past winter. The Cardinals’ program is continuing to grow and is looking to add on to its existing wrestling room.

The Circus Saints & Sinners Club will hold its 14th annual Charity Golf Scramble on Friday, June 27 at Wheeling Country Club with the proceeds of the event going to WJU’s wrestling program.

The scramble will begin with a shotgun start at 1 p.m.

THE ANNUAL Buckeye Local Touchdown Club Golf Scramble will be held on Saturday, July 12 at Paradise Hills Golf Course.

The event is a 3-person scramble and the cost is $150 per team with all proceeds benefitting the Buckeye Local Football program.
