Contracts and honors on board agenda

BRIDGEPORT — It was business as usual for the Bridgeport Exempted Village School District Board of Education during its regular monthly meeting.

The five-member panel unanimously approved the certified contracts of April McFarland (five years) and Zachary Melton (three years). Receiving two-year deals were Kimberly Harris, Katie Sheets, Jordan Robinson, Melissa Hill, Stephanie Faykus and Kelli Krob. Awarded one-year contracts were Amanda Ponsetti, Mackenzie Krieger, Brandi Kidwell, Taylor Evans, Morgan Young, Jennifer Ciroli, Jennifer Teasdale and Tracy-Lynn Rogers.

Andy Antosz, Ashley Namack, Emily Hall, Janet Garland and Ron Hinton were all given one-year classified contracts.

The following were awarded supplemental contracts: Vicki Falcone (College Careers Club); Jim Davenport (Video Board director); Georgeann Canter (Activities co-director); Felicia Porter (Activities co-director); Marianne Kadylak (mentor); Beth Albaugh (mentor); Brenda Wallner (nurse); Pat Antonik (nurse); Jim Davenport (high school yearbook advisor); Vicki Falcone (guidance, three weeks extended service); Georgeann Canter (J.E.T.S. adviser); Maria Kayafas (parent coordinator); David Nelson (head wrestling coach); Ronald Kelly (head volleyball coach); Donald Cash III (head boys basketball coach); Greg Harkness (head girls basketball coach); Jim Murad (assistant boys basketball coach); and Jason Hanson (assistant girls basketball coach).

Also passed unanimously were:

∫ approving a $1 per hour hour increase to the pay rate for the position of school nurse, effective for the 2017-18 school year;

∫ approving two additional days per month at $21 per hour for Kasha Doyle as a substitute nurse, effective for the 2017-18 school year;

∫ hiring Lisa Newell as substitute custodian/cook, retroactive to March 21; and

∫ the use of three blizzard bag days to be used to make up lost minutes of school due to weather conditions or calamity, retroactive to March 31.

Honored as Students of the Month for March were: senior Luke Bendel, junior Nate Stewart, sophomore Anthony Barsotti and freshman Kayla Kuri. Kaitlyn Clemont also was honored for winning the Queen of Queens contest.

Kalee Cross, Anthony Jaworski and Abbey Matusik were cited for their art work appearing in the Wheeling News-Register and The Intelligencer as Creative Business Messages in the newspapers’ “Design an Ad” contest.

The next regular monthly meeting will be held at 5 p.m. May 17 in the Media Center.
