Coffee House with Blue Yonder is June 3

MARIETTA, Ohio — The Blues, Jazz & Folk Music Society is presenting the next Coffee House in our series on June 3 featuring Blue Yonder. “A mix of virtuoso musicianship and original songwriting that plays as well in a hipster coffeehouse as it does in a small town concert hall” is how Larry Groce of Mountain Stage describes Blue Yonder.

Blue Yonder is a band from Charleston, W.Va., that takes strands of early country music — from swing to honky-tonk, bluegrass and rockabillly — and weaves them together with award-winning original compositions and a contemporary feel. The group features three seasoned musicians each with distinctive and notable skills: singer and songwriter John Lilly, national guitar champion Robert Shafer, and bassist Will Carter.

The band’s debut recording, Bittersweet Road, which features all original songs, reached #2 on the Freeform American Roots Radio charts in late 2013.

The event is scheduled to take place June 3 at the Fellowship Hall in the Unitarian Universalist Church, 232 3rd St., Marietta. Showtime is 7-8:30 p.m. Door opens at 6 p.m. The cost is $10 for society members and $12 for non-members. Cash only. Pizza, baked goods, water and coffee will be available. You may BYOB but please no red wine. No advance ticket sales or reservations. Parking in Huntington Bank parking lot after 6 p.m. Leave ATM lane open. Also in the lot across the street from the bank after 5 p.m. For information, call 740-376-0222.
