OHHS sponsors free community walk

BARNESVILLE — Ohio Hills Health Services will sponsor a free community walk at 11:30 a.m. Oct. 5 at the Barnesville Memorial Park Lake Trail.

Dr. Russell Lee-Wood will lead the walk. Participants are encouraged to walk at a pace and distance that is comfortable for them.

“Exercise is one of the best things people can do for their health. As little as 30 or even 15 minutes of moderate-intensity activity most days of the week can help lower your cardiovascular risk,” said Lee-Wood, medical director, OHHS. “We are hoping to inspire community members to get out and walk. We are fortunate to have the park lake trail available to us. It is a beautiful setting, and many people do not know about it.”

Once around the lake is a little over 1 mile, and three times around the lake is equivalent to a 5K. The trail is gravel, well maintained and relatively level. There are several benches along the way for participants to rest if needed. The community walk is not a race, but an opportunity for community members to come out and exercise and to enjoy the natural beauty of our area.

“Dr. Lee-Wood practices what he preaches. He is an avid cyclist and runner,” said Jeff Britton, CEO, OHHS. “He understands the importance of exercise and that exercise is a key component needed for people to stay healthy. We hope the community will join with him to take a walk in a beautiful setting.”

OHHS will provide water and door prizes. No registration is required. For additional information, call Lana Philips, 740-239-OHHS, ext. 1011.
