Clay Utter, fifth grader, comes in first at Union Local Elementary’s spelling bee Tuesday, with Remmi Carpenter, fifth grader, second. Bethany Johnston and Joel Getzlaff are alternates. All are from Flushing. The winners will go on to compete at the Belmont County Spelling Bee at 7 p.m. Feb. 6 at Ohio University Eastern, where the winner will receive a trip to the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C.
