Investigation continues regarding a body found in parking lot

BARNESVILLE — The investigation continues into an apparent hit-and-run case that occurred last Saturday in Barnesville.

Barnesville Police Chief Rocky Sirianni confirmed the report last week, stating that a male was found in a parking lot and appeared to have been involved in a vehicle-related incident.

“We believe he (the victim) was either hit by a vehicle or run over,” the chief said last week.

Sirianni released an updated statement regarding the incident on Tuesday.

“Shortly after 11 p.m. on November 30, emergency services were dispatched to a village of Barnesville parking lot in the 100 block of East Main Street for a male laying near one of the parking spots,” the release states.

The man had limited responses and was transported to Barnesville Hospital, where he later died, Sirianni said.

“He (the victim) appeared to have serious trauma and after collaborating with the deputy coroner, the decision was made to have an autopsy performed on the male,” he states in the release.

Law enforcement officials have reviewed footage from village cameras and from nearby business and have confirmed the content of the recordings with witnesses. Sirianni said they have a “very good understanding” of what transpired and who was involved in the incident.

“We are confident that this incident will not go unsolved,” he said.

No charges have been filed in the case, as police are still awaiting the autopsy results to determine what charges will be pursued, Sirianni stated. The Barnesville Police Department is working in conjunction with the Belmont County Prosecutor’s Office as the investigation continues.
