Auditions set for ‘Death of a Salesman’

ST. CLAIRSVILLE — The Theater Department of Ohio University Eastern Campus announces open community auditions for its upcoming production of “Death of a Salesman.”

Written by American playwright Arthur Miller, “Death of a Salesman” premiered in 1949. It won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama and Tony Award for Best Play and ran for 742 performances. It been revived on Broadway four times, winning three Tony Awards for Best Revival. It is widely considered to be one of the greatest plays of the 20th century.

The story revolves around the last days of Willy Loman, a failing salesman, who cannot understand how he failed to win success and happiness. Through a series of tragic soul-searching revelations of the life he has lived with his wife, his sons, and his business associates, we discover how his quest for the “American Dream” kept him blind to the people who truly loved him.

The role of Willy Loman has already been cast but all other roles are available (five women and seven men, various ages). No previous acting experience is necessary and everyone interested is encouraged to audition. Rehearsals begin February 11 and performance dates are April 22, 23, 24, 25, 26.
