DJFS providing financial assistance to those in need

CADIZ — The Harrison County Department of Job and Family Services has received funding to operate a Prevention, Retention and Contingency COVID-19 Disaster Program.

The program is available immediately and will provide assistance of up to $750 to applicants who are parents, specified relatives, guardians or who have legal custody of minor children living in their household, who have lost their employment due to the COVID-19 emergency.

The type of assistance available is:

– Rental assistance;

– Mortgage assistance;

– Utilities assistance, including cellphone and internet service;

– Car payment/car insurance;

– Other needs with special circumstances (up to $250).

This program cannot assist with medical costs and will not assist with needs for services provided by another agency program or insurance benefit.

Eligibility for this program is based on the previous 30 days’ income in the household. The eligibility threshold is 200 percent of the Federal Poverty Guidelines.

The agency is currently closed to the public, but applications are available on the public entrance door. Interested individuals can also call the agency at 740-942-2171 and ask that an application be mailed to them.
