Registered voters can request absentee ballots

ST. CLAIRSVILLE — Any registered voter in Ohio who did not already cast an absentee ballot has until April 28 to do so.

Voters can request an absentee ballot by calling 740-526-0188 or online at VoteOhio.gov.

Readers of The Times Leader who live in Belmont County can clip and complete the application form printed here and mail it to the board of elections at: Belmont County Board of Elections, P.O. Box 994, St. Clairsville, OH 43950.

The entire form has to be filled out and signed. Since this is a primary election, applicants will need to mark in section 6 which ballot they want the board to mail to them.

Elections Director Kelly McCabe said not all precincts in Belmont County have an issue-only ballot. All precincts have a Democratic and Republican ballot. Anyone in the 96th Ohio House District will also have a Libertarian ballot.

Anyone wanting to look at sample ballots available in their precinct can go to the board’s website, boe.ohio.gov/belmont.

Click on “Am I Registered” on the left side of the page and enter your name. You will see sample ballots on the right side of the page after your name is entered. Click on this link to see the ballots available to choose from. Click “View Ballot” for each of the ballots listed.

To ensure your absentee ballot request is received:

Make sure you fill in the type of ballot you are requesting.

Ensure the “date of election” field lists the date of the election, not the date you are submitting the application.

Check that all required fields are complete.

Print, sign and date your form.

Mail your completed form to your county board of elections.

For Harrison County voters, the address is: Harrison County Board of Elections, 538 N. Main St., Suite B, Government Center, Cadiz, OH 43907.

In Monroe County, the address is: Monroe County Board of Elections, 117 N. Main St., Suite 12, Woodsfield, OH 43793.

And in Jefferson County: Jefferson County Board of Elections, 500 Market St., Suite 1, Steubenville, OH 43952-2816.

Once your absentee ballot request is received by your county board of elections, workers will process your request and mail your ballot to your address. The boards of elections will prepay return postage.

Once you receive your ballot, to make sure your ballot is counted, it must be received by your board of elections by 7:30 p.m. April 28 or be postmarked by April 27 and delivered by mail to the board of elections by May 8.

The U.S. Postal Service estimates it may take two to five days for your voted absentee ballot to be delivered to your board of elections by mail.

You can track your request and your ballot at VoteOhio.gov.
