Drugs, guns seized from St. C. house

ST. CLAIRSVILLE — A man is in jail facing criminal charges after a raid on a city residence resulted in the seizure of drugs, guns and money.

Belmont County Sheriff David Lucas said detectives and deputies with the Criminal Investigative Unit served a search warrant Wednesday at 47625 Hidden Springs Drive. Lucas said Belmont County Western Division Court Judge Chris Berhalter signed the warrant.

Zachery Michael Hammel, 28, the resident, was arrested. He is charged with first-degree trafficking in drugs, second-degree felony trafficking in methamphetamine and three counts of third-degree felony possession of dangerous ordnance.

“He had sawed-off shotguns,” Lucas said. “He had three. We confiscated other weapons at the residence.

“We took over 37 grams of methamphetamine, suspected ecstasy, and around a dozen firearms, which some were modified illegally,” Lucas said.

He added that close to $400 in cash was also seized.

“It’s someone who was on our radar, we’ve been keeping an eye on, and the guys was able to get a search warrant,” Lucas said.

Hammel is being held at the Belmont County Jail on a bond of $65,000.

“This is all given to the prosecutor, so more charges may be filed at a later time,” Lucas noted.
