Voter registration deadline is Oct. 5

STEUBENVILLE — The Jefferson County Board of Elections is reminding voters that the deadline to register to vote or update your current registration is on Monday, Oct. 5.

“The deadline to register to vote or to update your registration is 30 days prior to any election,” said Frankie DiCarlantonio, board member of the Jefferson County Board of Elections.

Voters are encouraged to register if they meet the following circumstances:

They have never been registered to vote.

They have moved into Jefferson County and have not yet registered to vote.

They have had their registration cancelled after six consecutive years of no activity.

Voters are encouraged to update their registration if they meet the following circumstances:

They have moved within Jefferson County, even moving as close as across the street may change the precinct in which you are registered to vote.

Their name has changed from what is currently on their Voter Registration.

“Voters are encouraged to take a moment of their day and check their registration if they have any doubt whether or not they are considered an active, registered voter,” commented DiCarlantonio. “They can do that by visiting VoteOhio.Gov or by calling the Jefferson County Board of Elections at 740-283-8522.”

The deadline to register and/or update your registration is Oct. 5 at 9 p.m. Voters may register online with a valid Ohio ID or driver’s license at VoteOhio.Gov. Voters may also register in-person using a paper form at the Jefferson County Board of Elections, your local BMV, or library.

“The Voter Registration Deadline is a hard deadline, there is absolutely no wiggle room in registering to vote after the deadline,” commented DiCarlantonio. “Voters should take a moment to ensure that they are registered and/or updated to make sure that their voice is heard in November.”

Voters that are registered to vote and do not update their registration with either an address change or a name change may have to vote provisionally when voting at the polls. “You will still be permitted to vote, but the time spent to update your registration prior to the deadline will be much less time than voting provisionally on Election Day, so please take the moment to update your registration now,” said DiCarlantonio.
