St. Clairsville — Belmont College officials are pleased to announce that Karolyn Fox, director of nursing, has been awarded the Office of the Secretary of Defense Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve Patriotic Employer Award on behalf of Belmont College’s Nursing programs.

This award is in acknowledgement of how the nursing program has adopted military friendly policies.

These policies allow flexibility to active military members to complete the nursing program while they are in the Reserves or called to active duty.

Fox and the nursing program were nominated by current ADN student Sgt. Courtney Pelley, who has served in the Army Reserve for 10 years.

According to Pelley, “Belmont College has been more than supportive of my service in the Army Reserve.

“They have really gone above and beyond to help me succeed. I have never felt so supported by any organization in my 10 years of military service.”

Presenting the award were Don Turk, Military Outreach coordinator for Ohio, and Jim Coombs, Employer Outreach coordinator.

At Belmont College, two nursing programs are offered: the associate degree nursing program and the practical nursing certificate program. These programs are designed to provide an educational opportunity in which students develop a scientific basis of nursing practice and master technical skills.

Under direct supervision of qualified instructors, Belmont College nursing students experience patient interactions, in-class lectures, and hospital clinical experiences which all foster caring and empathetic approaches to nursing care.

In September of 2020, the ADN program underwent a virtual survey visit by the Ohio Board of Nursing whereas the program was found to be 100 percent compliant with all laws and the rules for conducting a nursing program.

The PN program’s next scheduled review will be in 2023.
